Another look at Soldier Boy is here with, new concept art from The Boys season 3 that shows off Jensen Ackles in the highly anticipated role. Amazon's superhero satire series started off as an underdog, but during the show's second season, The Boys' popularity skyrocketed. This is thanks, in part, to its skewing of the superhero genre. With Marvel and DC taking over theaters and streaming, audiences are used to a more wholesome look at their favorite heroes, but The Boys takes a different approach, bringing violence and crude humor into the mix.
Although the series has already had its fair share of shocking action and plot twists, season 3 is looking to up the ante even more. From adapting The Boys' iconic herogasm storyline to the introduction of Soldier Boy, everything will be bigger and bloodier in season 3. Since The Boys is currently in the middle of filming, fans had been eagerly awaiting a sneak peek at Ackles in costume as Soldier Boy and they finally got their wish last week.
Now, The Wrap has revealed another look at Soldier Boy, this time in the form of concept art. In the image, Ackles looks to be on a battlefield in a similar costume to the one revealed in the photo. A better look at Soldier Boy's shield is also shown off in the artwork and Ackles can be seen saluting someone out of the frame. Check out the full image below:
Ackels' debut as Soldier Boy is highly anticipated for a few reasons. In the series of comics, Soldier Boy is one of the original Vought superheroes and, during his tenure, he became an American icon after allegedly fighting in World War II. Soldier Boy will also serve as a perfect foil to Homelander, Vought's current top supe, thanks to his naive brutality. Still, despite all of this prior knowledge, Soldier Boy's role in season 3 remains somewhat of a mystery.
The Boys already delved into the past with the villainous Stormfront last season and it's unclear if the series is positioning Soldier Boy as another big bad or someone who, like in the comics, will be desperately trying to join The Seven. Some believe that Ackles' look in the show implies that the Soldier Boy fans will see in the series will be past his prime, but it could also just show that the character is a little rougher around the edges than the polished members of The Seven. Either way, Ackles inclusion in The Boys season 3 is an exciting one for many fans and it may not be long before they get to see him in action.
