Antony Starr, who plays Homelander on The Boys, responds to a piece of fan art that imagines the actor as the MCU's Wolverine. Starr plays The Boys tyrannical supe Homelander, a superpowered being that draws some similarities to DC's Superman. The Boys plays on a number of common superhero and comic book tropes, presenting them through a more realistic lens and offering audiences a glimpse into a terrifying reality where superheroes are the face of a corrupt conglomerate, with Starr's Homelander at the forefront. The Boys has featured a handful of references to the MCU throughout, as the studio's comic book blockbusters continue to dominate both the big and small screen.

The MCU's most recent release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, explored the concept of multiversal variants and introduced John Krasinski's Reed Richards after the actor had been fan-cast in the role for a number of years. This exciting reveal once again sparked up the conversation as to who will take over the mantle of fan-favorite Marvel character Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman having debuted in the role back in 2000's X-Men. Starr's performance as Homelander has received both critical and audience acclaim as The Boys season 3 continues, causing some to advocate for his casting as the popular mutant.

Ever since the Disney/Fox merger back in 2019, Wolverine has been a major topic of discussion for those who are keen to see their favorite actor cast in the role. Marvel veterans Joe and Anthony Russo recently revealed that they would love to see MCU star Chris Evans play Wolverine following his departure from the role of Captain America. Meanwhile, Starr's The Boys castmate Karl Urban has also had his name thrown into the mix on a number of occasions, with the actor also responding to the fan-castings, citing his age as one of the reasons why he may not necessarily be suitable for the role.

While this fan art certainly proves that Starr may indeed have the look to tackle the role of Wolverine, the actor's hesitation is certainly understandable. As arguably one of Marvel's more ruthless heroes, the stunt work involved with bringing the character to the big screen would likely be no small task, although audiences have recently expressed their concerns that Disney's acquisition of these somewhat more violent characters, including Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, could lead to a more watered-down final product. For now, as Starr continues to bring a horrifying performance to The Boys, it remains to be seen whether the star will make the leap over to another comic book universe anytime soon.
