The Boys wrote an actual script for the in-universe superhero movie “Dawn of the Seven.” The series, which is adapted from the eponymous comic book, premiered on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2019. The story centers around a team of dysfunctional civilians as they battle against corrupt superpowered individuals.

Still, beyond the general thrust of its narrative, the series is notable for taking aim at pop culture through their in-universe movies and television shows. The most prominent example is “Dawn of the Seven.” A big event film, modeled after other movies where comic book heroes team up, the making of “Dawn of the Seven” was a recurring element throughout season 2. Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, has now revealed that the parody film comes with its own script.

Speaking on the official podcast for the show, Kripke recalled walking around set during the filming of The Boys season 2 and spotting the script for “Dawn of the Seven”. To his surprise, as he paged through it, Kripke found the script was filled with real pages of dialogue and complete with notes from the characters about which parts they didn’t approve. You can read Kripke’s quote below:-

“In episode 3, when Stormfront like is lifting the script, and is like, ‘oh, I’ve got notes’. And she had like, notes all over that script. Yeah, in between setups, I was just kind of hanging out on-set. And I happen to like, pick up the script and page through it. So, one, somebody really wrote Dawn of the Seven. Like, that was not just fake pages. I was reading it. I’m like, ‘someone really wrote this’. And then someone really wrote notes all over it… that are all real notes. Like, ‘I don’t like what this character is doing’. ‘I don’t like this arc.’ Like it’s all real. No audience members ever going to see that. It’s turned away from camera. And that level of detail, I just think, is just remarkable.”

The Dawn of The Seven Movie Poster Vought Cinematic Universe The Boys Season 2

Dawn of the Seven has taken on a life of its own, with growing calls for the superhero parody to be released as a standalone film. If it did happen, it would offer more insight into characters like Maeve and Starlight by offering a peek into their public perceptions. It could also crucially illuminate Homelander’s carefully calibrated image of an All-American hero, shedding light on why he has arguably maintained the biggest fanbase out of all the superpowered individuals cultivated by Vought.

More humorously, a full “Dawn of the Seven” release would allow The Boys to fully lean into its critiques and cleverly mockery of the Marvel and DC films that have dominated the box office. The series has never been shy about the way those big blockbusters can pander to Girl Power, for example, and a full-length film can poke fun at other tropes of the genre. While it’s unclear if Amazon will ever expand its slate of The Boys content with “Dawn of the Seven,” set photos from season 3 offer the hope that viewers will get a few more glimpses of the in-universe movie.

Kripke’s remarks, on the whole, point to some of what has made the show a success. Even though it has a relatively easy target in mind, by using superheroes as stand-ins for giant corporations, the show goes the extra mile to make its potentially campy premise feel true and authentic. That attention to detail, which Kripke alludes to, bodes well for the continued fortunes of The Boys as it heads into season 3 and releases a spinoff. And maybe, given that a script is already written, “Dawn of the Seven” won’t be too far behind.
