The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito teases his season 4 return in a new post. The gritty and satirical Amazon Prime superhero series provides an R-rated twist on the well-known hero genre. Following the supe-fighting team of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), and Marvin Milk (Laz Alonso), the live-action series is based on the graphic novel series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show takes place in a world where superheroes exist, but were created, privatized, and corrupted by a large corporation known as Vought International.

Esposito plays Stan Edgar in The Boys, the CEO of Vought. The character runs a tight ship and is frequently frustrated by the unpredictable exploits of his super-powered charges, especially Homelander (Anthony Starr). Though Stan doesn't seem as outright villainous as the violent and cruel heroes working for Vought, his involvement in the company that created those monsters makes him one of the show's biggest villains. The end of The Boys season 3 saw the capable Stan shockingly bested by his adopted daughter/congresswoman Victora Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and Homelander and removed from Vought, seemingly shutting the door on the former CEO.

Now, Giancarlo Esposito has posted a cryptic tweet teasing his return in The Boys season 4. A flashback image of his character from a previous season in the series, the post includes a caption stating that viewers haven't seen Stan Edgar in some time, adding in a mischievous smiling purple devil emoji that hints at surprises in store.

How Could Stan Edgar Return For The Boys Season 4

Though Stan was ousted from Vought, his character's ending wasn't necessarily final since the character is still alive. Since The Boys season 4 will tackle the takedown of Victoria, who shares a long history with Stan, perhaps the former Vought CEO will team up with the Boys in order to help them bring her down. However, given his affection for Victoria as well as her daughter, the character may return in an attempt to steer Victoria away from her associations with the increasingly unhinged Homelander. Stan's pride was also presumably wounded by Victoria's betrayal and Homelander's gloating, setting up the possibility that he will seek revenge on both either through professional means or by engaging powerful friends. In a less dramatic turn, Stan could find Homelander at his mercy if the superhero finds running Vought harder than he imagined and begs the former CEO to help him run the company.

There is also the potential that Esposito's tweet is in reference to The Boys spin-off Gen V, since The Boys season 4 is not the only project in that universe on the horizon. However, Stan's storyline in The Boys has rich potential in a new season since the character will be seen in a new position and outside his comfort zone for the first time in the series. Whatever The Boys season 4 has in store for Stan, it's exciting to consider the fascinating character's return.
