Jensen Ackles appears back in shape as Soldier Boy in a recent photo teasing The Boys season 4. The superhero comedy series, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book of the same name, premiered on Prime Video back in 2019, introducing audiences to a corrupt group of superpowered individuals known as the "Seven," and the eponymous team of vigilantes looking to take them down. Ackles made his series debut in season 3, playing a parody of Captain America, referred to as the original superhero, who was presumed dead after being captured by the Soviets during the Cold War. Additionally, The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and more.Solider Boy was supposed to be the key to defeating an increasingly hostile Homelander. Experimented on by the Russians, he gained the ability to release powerful energy blasts, and he agreed to help Urban's Billy Butcher retaliate against the leader of the Seven in exchange for his assistance hunting down his former team. It is eventually revealed that Solider Boy is Homelander's father, a revelation he responds to with disdain, and when attempting to release a potentially fatal blast during a fight, Maeve throws him out a window. In the end, Solider Boy gets put back to sleep, under the supervision of Laila Robins' Grace Mallory, but with The Boys getting renewed, many fans have been hoping to see Ackles' character return in season 4.
Now, The Boys is teasing Jensen Ackles' involvement in new episodes through a behind-the-scenes photo shared to their official Twitter page. In the image, the actor appears to be in the gym, getting back in shape as Soldier Boy, with the caption poking fun at the hero's name. Check out the photo above:
What To Expect From Soldier Boy's Return?
Ackles teased his return to The Boys back in August by commenting on one of Karl Urban's Instagram posts celebrating season 4. The character got what he wanted by enacting revenge on his former team, Payback, but his interactions with Homelander were brief, and many fans are hoping to see another head-to-head showdown between the two. Despite him being put back to sleep, one theory imagines that Victoria Neuman could use her CIA connections to wake him up. Considering The Boys view the secret Supe as a potential target, she could use Soldier Boy to combat their efforts against her.
Whether he plays an ally or an adversary to the show's main protagonists, fans will certainly be happy to see Ackles back as Soldier Boy. Because he is a character out of time, it will also be interesting to see how his arc develops and if he is able to form any meaningful relationships with other fan-favorite characters heading into the new season.
