Morgan was previously in talks to join The Boys season 3. However, the actor was unable to star alongside Ackles due to his schedule working on The Walking Dead spinoff Dead City, which is currently filming and set to be released sometime next year. Although Morgan and Kripke teased plans for season 4, it wasn’t certain the schedules provided by AMC and Prime Video would facilitate those plans. Thankfully, the powers that be found a way to make it work.

It’s unclear whether Morgan’s role will be recurring or limited to a cameo. Following his turn as the Comedian in Zack Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of Watchmen, it’ll be interesting to see if Kripke decides to once again put Morgan in tights. Compound-V aside, the showrunner has expressed a desire to get all three Winchesters to appear in The Boys, with the only one left being Jared Padalecki. At the end of season 3, Ackles’ character was seen unconscious and inside a gassed capsule. While fans would like to see Morgan and Ackles onscreen again, even if that doesn’t occur, Urban and company will more than do.
