The Boys season 3 will be three times bloodier than season 2, according to Mother's Milk actor Laz Alonso. Based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys season 2 surged in popularity thanks to its no holds barred portrayal of the superheroes at its center. This approach includes the very real and very violent consequences of the things that happen when superheroes are in control of the world's fate, something most modern portrayals shy away from.

At the center of this violence is Homelander, one of the most sadistic and evil characters on the show. Ending season 2 with more confidence than ever despite his defeat, The Boys season 3 is set to introduce some of the comics' most shocking storylines. One of those is the Herogasm plot, a controversial mini-series ripped straight from the graphic novels. It sounds like that might pale in comparison to what the show has in store for its action sequences, though.

In an interview with Collider, Alonso revealed that The Boys season 3 is upping the ante when it comes to blood. The actor reveals that they used less than a gallon of fake blood in the second season. This time around, though, Alonso says they're already at three and a half gallons of blood with the show still in the midst of production.

I'll put it to you this way. I was talking to the head makeup artist and she's in charge of ordering the blood - that's one of her many jobs. She told me that all of Season 2... When you talk about bulk, I don't think they used over a gallon of blood in Season 2, believe it or not. Season 3, we're already at three and a half gallons of blood. So that should give you a little indication of where it's going.

The Boys has never shied away from violence - its opening scene depicted Hughie's girlfriend's brutal death at the hands of A-Train, a member of The Seven. The show has become increasingly violent during its run, honoring the graphic novels by refusing to shy away from the gritty moments that define it. This certainly hasn't deterred viewers from watching the show either. The Boys season 3 is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated upcoming television events and with production in full swing, it could debut by the end of 2021.

The Boys' season 2 finale was one of the show's most violent episodes yet and it ended with Homelander more vengeful than ever. To think the series would shy away from everything it's teasing for its third season is to not know what The Boys is about. While there's truly no way of knowing what's in store besides the few teases the cast and crew have hinted at, it's clear that The Boys season 3 will continue to up the ante in just about every aspect, including the amount of bloody fun to be had.
