Karl Urban reveals that The Boys season 3 will contain animated scenes, as well as musical scenes. Based on Garth Ennis' comic book series by the same name, The Boys first launched on Amazon Prime Video back in 2019 and offered a brutal, dystopian reimagining of the much-loved superhero genre. Urban stars as Billy Butcher, alongside a stand-out cast that includes Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, and Dominique McElligott.

Butcher seeks to take down Vought Industries, an organization responsible for the creation of super-powered beings, nicknamed "supes," using them as the face of their company as a distraction from the corruption that lies beneath. Season 3 will welcome back the majority of season 2's principal cast, alongside a number of exciting new additions. Teased throughout the show's promotional run, Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy is set to become a heavy hitter among the ranks. However, just how Soldier Boy's role will play out across season 3 is yet to be revealed.

As The Boys gears up for its official release, Urban recently spoke with RadioX and teased a number of exciting elements that season 3 will bring. Urban called this the "most dynamic season yet" echoing his previous comments in which he referred to season 3 as the best season of The Boys so far. The actor promised "more Boys magic" before sharing that audiences can expect both animated and musical elements within the season's eight-episode run. Check out Urban's full quote below.

"It is a lot of fun. You know, this season I think is the most dynamic season yet ... [It's] not only gonna deliver more Boys magic, but you know- We do things like- There's a musical element to it, there's an animated element to it. You get the whole shebang..."

the boys presents: diabolical why do hugie and butcher look different

The Boys venturing into animated territory is interesting, as earlier this year saw the spin-off animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical released on Amazon Prime. The final episode of the animated series was confirmed to be canon within the main live-action show by The Boys' showrunner Eric Kripke. However, it remains to be seen if any sort of significant crossover with its original series will be featured. Urban has offered up various exciting teases in the lead up to The Boys' release, previously revealing that the show's makeup department ran out of fake blood by episode 3. This revelation hints at a very gory season ahead, despite the potentially more whimsical animated and musical elements.

Both animation and musical scenes are likely to add another level of insanity to The Boys and create a jarring tonal shift. It will certainly be interesting to see the context in which they are used, and how they ultimately play into the overall story. Much of what can be expected from The Boys season 3 has been kept tightly under wraps, and so an animated scene could just be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what other surprises are in store. Perhaps The Boys season 3's first episodes will deliver the Diabolical crossover that many are hoping for when they release on Prime Video.
