The Boys season 3 star Jensen Ackles has shared a fun behind-the-scenes image that shows his character Soldier Boy as he stands among some destruction. The highly anticipated third season of Amazon Prime's acclaimed superhero series has finally been confirmed to release its first three episodes on June 3, 2022, with each subsequent episode then releasing weekly. The Boys is based on the hit comic-book series by Garth Ennis and tells the story of a vigilante group who are hell-bent on bringing down Vought Industries, the toxic corporation behind The Seven. The Seven are a group of genetically engineered superheroes, or "supes," whose public image and financial backing mean that they are able to get away with murder, literally.

Eric Kripke's beloved series sees Karl Urban star as Billy Butcher, the leader of the so-called 'Boys', with Antony Starr appearing opposite him as Homelander, his super-powered nemesis and leader of The Seven. The series also stars Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Karen Fukuhara, and Jessie Usher, with a number of new faces set to make an appearance in the upcoming third season. A particularly exciting addition to the cast came in the form of Jensen Ackles after it was confirmed that the Supernatural star would play Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, with Kripke having teased that Ackles will bring both humor and danger to the character. Very little has been confirmed in regards to Soldier Boy's role within the events show, but now fans have got an exciting tease of what's to come.

Taking to Instagram, Ackles shared an exciting new photo from the set of The Boys, in celebration of season 3 officially receiving its release date. Captioning the image "Soldier Boy is coming..." with a mischievous face emoji, the actor also shared the series' June 3 release date alongside the behind-the-scenes photo. The picture shows Ackles, in costume as Soldier Boy, standing among a huge pile of rubble with a mix of fire and smoke surrounding the superhero. The photo quickly gained a lot of attention, with many fans voicing their excitement to see Ackles appear within the series. Check out Ackles' post below.

News of Ackles' addition to the cast was largely welcomed by fans, who are excited to see what the actor will bring to this unique role. The Boys season 2 ended on a fairly intense cliffhanger after it was revealed that Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (played by Claudia Doumit) had been the one behind a number of seemingly random attacks that saw the victims' heads explode without explanation. Whether Soldier Boy will play a part in taking down this newly established threat remains to be seen, but this new image proves that he is certainly willing to get his hands dirty in the meantime.

The Boys has established time and time again that the supes are not your average superheroes and don't share the same moral compass as the typical comic-book heroes. Knowing this, there is a good chance that the destruction within Ackles' image has been caused by Soldier Boy himself, likely with little regard for human life. Details of exactly what audiences can expect from The Boys season 3 have remained shrouded in mystery with much of the series' production having been kept tightly under wraps, but with the release date now officially confirmed, there isn't long to go until Soldier Boy's intentions are revealed.
