The Boys star, Jack Quaid, says the series' third season will be more messed up than the seasons preceding it. Quaid, fresh off the success of Scream (2022) will reprise his role along with other ensemble members Karl Urban, Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty, and Dominique McElligott in the superhero dark comedy. Season 3 is set to premiere on June 3 on Amazon Prime for eight episodes, airing weekly.

Based on the comic series of the same name, The Boys follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they try to take down superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities. The series quickly became notorious for featuring graphic scenes of nudity and violence to subvert the expectation of the superhero genre being family-friendly. Supernatural star, Jensen Ackles, is set to join The Boys in season 3 as Soldier Boy, a character from the comics who will be depicted as evil compared to his innocent comic counterpart.

In an interview with TheWrap, Quaid talks about how The Boys will continue to top itself in the third season, and won't be like anything the series has done before. He goes on to say that the new season will be filled with character development and insane moments that the series is known for pulling off. Quaid also talks about filming the third season, saying it's the most fun he's ever had on a set, with the established cast and crew able to make the show more efficient than before. Read his full quote below:

“I think we tackle a lot of new territory. I think you see our characters in places that you’ve never really seen them before, I’m just so excited for people to see it. That’s going to be awesome. I don’t know. I don’t know what else to say besides, I think I had the most fun shooting this season compared to the others because all of the actors now, and the crew, we’re just this big, huge family It just feels like second nature at this point and I love it. But I’m really proud of what we did and I can’t wait for people to see it.”

It's already been confirmed by showrunner Eric Kripke that the new season will adapt the "Herogasm" storyline, which will be centered around superhero orgy festivals. The storyline will occur in the sixth episode of the upcoming season and will be titled the same name, "Herogasm." Kripke has also said that the first episode of The Boys season 3 will contain the most ambitious set piece of the series to date.

In an industry that's completely oversaturated with earnest superhero stories, it's refreshing to see a series that's filled with plenty of cynicism to put it in contrast. Given the source material, there's truly no telling where the new season will go, but it will surely be as bleak and hilarious as the first two. With season 3 of The Boys just a few months away, there will be plenty of dark insanity for those who are getting a bit tired of the family-friendly tone most superhero media takes.
