An image from The Boys season 3 reveals a new look at Soldier Boy in 1945. Developed by Eric Kripke, The Boys is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson. Amazon Prime Video's hit adaptation follows the titular team of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher who resist the powerful and corrupt corporation known as Vought International and their lineup of Compound V-enhanced superheroes who often abuse their abilities for the sake of evil.

Led by Homelander, Vought's official superhero team known as "the Seven" also includes Starlight, Queen Maeve, A-Train, The Deep, and Black Noir. Since losing some members throughout the course of the series, such as Translucent during season 1 and Stormfront in season 2, the superhero team is set to welcome a newcomer in season 3, premiering on June 3. There have already been a few looks at Supernatural star Jensen Ackles in The Boys, who makes his debut in season 3 as Soldier Boy, one of Vought's original superheroes.

Now, another look at Ackles' character is here. In honor of #NationalSuperheroDay, the official Vought International Twitter account sent out a black-and-white photo of Soldier Boy circa World War II. The image is accompanied by some fake history claiming that the day was originally established as #SoldierBoyDay, though he humbly changed it to commemorate all superheroes instead. It appears the show is taking a page out of The Boys comics in which Soldier Boy fought during World War II as a member of the super-group known as Payback. There have been a few references to Soldier Boy throughout Amazon's adaptation, though the upcoming third season will be his first appearance in the flesh. Just like other members of the Seven have their own Marvel and DC counterparts, Soldier Boy is commonly viewed as The Boys' satirical stand-in for Steve Rogers/Captain America.

In the source material, Soldier Boy is depicted as a naïve and overly patriotic hero who longs to join the Seven, which will come true in season 3. His peers also consider him a cowardly sycophant who mindlessly sucks up to famous superheroes, so renaming #SoldierBoyDay in order to commemorate all heroes in a desperate attempt to win their approval absolutely sounds like something he would do. It shouldn't be long before Soldier Boy becomes a fan-favorite comic relief character on season 3 of The Boys.
