WARNING: Spoilers for The Boys season 3, episode 6.

The Boys season 3 had some cut "Herogasm" scenes that would've hurt its best moment had they been included. Adapted from a six-part miniseries of the same name from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s original comic, the Prime Video Original's adaptation more than lived up to the hype. According to showrunner Eric Kripke, the "Herogasm" episode was going to include even more outrageous scenes that were ultimately cut due to time and budget restraints. Due to the effectiveness of one particular scene, however, this ultimately is for the best.

Season 3 of The Boys has focused on the group searching for a means to kill Homelander once and for all. This led to Butcher and Hughie injecting themselves with a new, temporary form of Compound V called V24 and using Soldier Boy as a living weapon, much to the dismay of Mother's Milk and Starlight. In addition to the titular moment itself, The Boys' "Herogasm" delivers some payoff to several storylines, notably in having Butcher, Hughie, and Soldier Boy come incredibly close to killing Homelander. However, as Kripke states, there was a lot more the show intended to deliver during this long-awaited episode.

In a recent interview, Kripke discussed how certain restraints led to certain scenes in The Boys season 3's "Herogasm" being cut. Such scenes included a sex scene involving an aquatic creature-like Supe and a running gag of extreme emissions of bodily fluid. While these certainly would have fit the tone of the episode, it's better that the scenes didn't make it into the final cut, especially when it would have taken away from the moment involving Mother's Milk being sprayed with said fluids. What Kripke had to say about The Boys' "Herogasm" episode can be read below:

“We just couldn’t pull off all the gags we wanted to pull off. I remember at some point there was discussion about some kind of aquatic, Creature from the Black Lagoon-type Supe in the pool, having sex underwater. That was discussed at one point, and I don’t think we could pull that off. We were going to make a running joke out of these massive firehoses of fluid that get sprayed. There was going to be a female one that was going to get sprayed all over Hughie and that was going to be a running joke. Then we just sort of ran out of time, and so it all kind of combined to the one on poor Mother’s Milk.”

What makes Mother's Milk's season 3 "Herogasm" moment work is that until that point, "Herogasm" (barring a few explicit moments) had been rather tame, at least as close as it could get for a show such as The Boys. It ultimately makes the scene more shocking, disgustingly hilarious, and most importantly, effective, which allowed it to set the stage for more outrageous moments like The Deep's disturbingly intimate moment with an octopus. Making that moment a running gag with other characters would have only served to lessen the impact of the moment. It also served to make The Boys' "Herogasm" fight with Homelander that much more intense without a running visual gag. It's especially important as Mother's Milk is the one character in The Boys who most hates superheroes and everything they do, so him getting the unfortunate blast of fluids was the most impactful choice.

The Boys' season 3's "Herogasm" is being hailed as one of the best episodes of the series. For better or worse, the Mother's Milk scene is a huge highlight that is made more effective thanks to the cutting of certain moments. As such, it could be possible for Amazon to allow Kripke to make an extended cut happen should the demand be high. As of now, though, The Boys has set the stage for what is sure to be an epic finale for The Boys season 3. At least, it will certainly be epic if the next two episodes can live up to the bar set by "Herogasm."
