The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke teases a moment in season 3 that's even crazier than the incoming Herogasm. In a television landscape completely cluttered by superhero properties, The Boys has stood out as a breath of fresh air for many. Amazon's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic series returned for season 2 last year and reached new levels of critical and fan acclaim. Just yesterday, The Boys scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series (as well as 4 additional noms), helping to further push back on the idea that genre shows can't be considered for major awards.

Because of all this acclaim, there are a lot of high expectations surrounding The Boys season 3. Contributing to that are the words from those involved with the show; for example, Homelander actor Antony Starr recently called it his favorite so far. Story details for The Boys season 3 are still limited, but it is expected to explore America's history through the introduction of supe Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). Additionally, the raunchy Herogasm storyline from the comics will factor into episode 6, and it promises to be just as intense onscreen as it is on the page.

Following The Boys' Emmy nominations on Tuesday, Kripke spoke to EW and teased what lies ahead for television's most inappropriate superhero show. Kripke acknowledged that Herogasm is a major moment, but he also said, "We have some crazier thing." Exactly what that is, he wouldn't say, only stating, "Beyond even 'Herogasm,' I still think the craziest thing we've ever done is in Episode 1." At the same time, Kripke was quick to insist Herogasm is "bananas":

"That said, 'Herogasm,' the dailies are bananas. I've been around the block a few times. I'm a seasoned producer. Every single day on those dailies, my jaw was on the floor. I just could not believe how insane those dailies were. It's just crazy. I can tell you that for anybody who is a fan of the comic and is expecting to see Herogasm, we are delivering it. That is happening."

In the Boys comics, Herogasm is a Vought-sponsored event for superheroes to indulge in all kinds of debauchery, from sex to drugs. The mere idea sounds difficult to capture for television, and many are curious to see just how Kripke and his team will pull it off. The early buzz for The Boys' take on Herogasm is quite promising, with Kripke having previously called the footage the craziest thing he's seen in his career. The claim that The Boys season 3 will feature something even wilder than that in its first episode seems like an impossible feat.

And yet, that is exactly what Kripke is teasing. It's hard to picture what could top a superhero orgy, but perhaps it's best to just wait and see what The Boys has in store. Season 2 featured a supe with a prehensile penis known as Love Sausage, a whale being impaled by a speedboat, and a villain with the ability to make heads explode. Somehow, The Boys aims to top all that in the near future. It's a tall order, but they just might be able to pull it off.
