Showrunner Eric Kripke reveals that the first footage seen for season 3 of The Boys is the craziest thing he has seen in his career. Kripke first found fame with his work as creator and showrunner on The CW's Supernatural until departing after season 5, which he originally planned as the conclusion for the Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki-starring drama. Originally set at Cinemax, Kripke teamed up with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to develop Garth Ennis' acclaimed graphic novel for Amazon.

The series is set in a world in which superheroes exist but work for the corrupt corporation Vought International, abusing their powers on and off the job. The story centers on Hughie Campbell, a man who watches his girlfriend killed by the speedster A-Train and is recruited by the charismatic Billy Butcher to join the titular team dedicated to putting superheroes in their place. Across its two seasons, The Boys has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and been a ratings hit for the streaming platform, landing a season 3 order and a college-set spin-off.

With a little over four months of production under its belt, Kripke took to Twitter to offer an update on season 3 of the series. Discussing the footage he's seen thus far, the showrunner is praising it as some of "the craziest f***ing dailies" he's seen in his career. See Kripke's post below:

The two biggest points of interest for fans for the upcoming season of The Boys are the reunion of Ackles with Kripke for the role of Soldier Boy and the adaptation of the "Herogasm" storyline from the comics. Going off of Kripke and the show's newest tease, it certainly seems they're discussing the episode adapting the story in the upcoming season, especially given the showrunner's previous reactions to the first production meeting on the episode. It's a story full of controversy, namely in what ensues between Batman parody Black Noir and Hughie, so Kripke calling some dailies the craziest thing he's seen in his career comes as no shock, even to those who have watched the first two seasons of the series.

Though production on season 3 is nearing its conclusion, no premiere date for The Boys' return has been set as of this time. But looking at the previous seasons' release schedules and the current shooting schedule, there's a strong possibility the show will return to Amazon Prime Video later this year. For now, fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more looks at Ackles' Soldier Boy and other teases from the next chapter of the superhero drama.
