The Boys' showrunner, Eric Kripke has teased that the show's upcoming third season will contain "a lot of madness." The acclaimed Amazon Prime series first hit screens back in 2019 and blew fans away with its unique and incredibly gory take on the superhero genre. Based on Garth Ennis' comic book series of the same name, The Boys sees Karl Urban and Jack Quaid team up in an attempt to take down The Seven, a group of super-powered humans who are the product of a gigantic corporation named Vought Industries. Anthony Starr leads the heroes under the alias Homelander, while Gossip Girl star, Chace Crawford, also stars as The Deep.

While season 1 brought the initial shock factor, season 2 truly hit it out of the park with its insane and somewhat questionable sequences that truly established the show as a real stand-out in its genre. Alongside the usual craziness that fans of The Boys have come to expect, season 2 saw a number of bizarre scenes unfold before them, namely one that included a 50 ft. whale being smashed into by a boat that was captained by Urban's character, Billy. The finale of season 2 revealed that Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (played by Claudia Doumit) actually possesses a terrifying ability that enables her to explode people's heads at will, in a shocking twist that appeared to cast doubt over her character's motives, after having seemingly established her as an ally to Quaid's character, Hughie.

Now Kripke, the series' showrunner, has spoken to TV Guide (via TV Insider) about this upcoming season 3 and discussed the "madness" that audiences can expect from it. When asked about this newest season, Kripke revealed that one of the episodes will contain a huge superhero orgy, as inspired by one of Ennis' specific comics. The showrunner then went on to tease that the very first episode of season 3 will contain one of the "craziest things anybody’s ever tried to pull off." Check out Kripke's full quote below:

"There’s definitely a lot of madness. It’s not a secret that we’re doing an episode about 'Herogasm' from the comics, which is a massive superhero orgy. And we’re doing something in the first episode that I think is definitely the craziest thing we’ve ever pulled off…and might be one of the craziest things anybody’s ever tried to pull off."

The Boys Homelander

The Boys was previously nominated for Best Outstanding Drama at the Primetime Emmy Awards, and given the incredible success of the show as a whole, Amazon is also now supposedly eyeing a number of potential spin-off projects that will be centered around The Seven and Vought Industries. Fans can expect the first of these spin-offs, The Boys: Diabolical, as early as next year with the anthology series set to feature the talents of a number of big names such as Awkwafina, Justin Roiland, Andy Samberg and Seth Rogen. Meanwhile, The Boys appears to have gained the attention of a number of A-list fans, in particular Spider-Man: No Way Home star, Tom Holland, who recently shared his love of the series during an interview.

Of course with The Boys, nothing is ever truly off the table, so there is absolutely no telling what season 3 has in store. The previous two seasons have set the bar incredibly high in terms of the level of insanity that the show can reach, and this exciting tease from Kripke will certainly have many wondering what could possibly be next. As of right now, the official release date for The Boys third season has not been confirmed, but with many expecting a 2022 release on Amazon Prime Video, it may not be long until they receive more exciting teases about this upcoming season.
