The Boys season 3 is introducing three new superheroes to the cast. The third season was confirmed by Amazon ahead of the premiere of the second season. After the tremendous response generated by audiences after season 1, it is no surprise that the streaming service would announce another installment reasonably quickly. With news dropping left and right for season 3, fans are hungry for a release date that has yet to be announced.

The upcoming season has been in production in Toronto. The show sees the return of Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Antony Starr as Homelander, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Capon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as the Deep, and Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir. Jensen Ackles is taking the reins as Soldier Boy.

The Wrap reports that season 3 is adding three new Supes to the cast. Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints) is Gunpowder, Nick Wechsler (Roswell) is Blue Hawk, and Miles Gaston Villanueva (The Resident) is Supersonic. Although no character details have been released for any of these new roles, they are recurring characters for the upcoming season. Fans will have to wait for further information to learn more about them and how they fit into the season.

While readers of the comics typically have a bit more knowledge of new characters than those who exclusively watch the show, these new roles are more mysterious. Gunpowder is a minor antagonist and member of a superpowered team called the Teenage Kix. His appearance is inspired by Judge Dredd and can be seen briefly in season 1 talking on television about gun rights. Meanwhile, Blue Hawk and Supersonic appear to be original creations for the show to be taken in any direction. However, it is possible for the Teenage Kix to be introduced and for them to be members.

Looking at The Boys comics can better understand some general directions that the show will go in. However, the series has already deviated in multiple ways from the comics, so it is not guaranteed to provide much insight. Even the superpowers themselves from the comics are not directly adapted into the show, so it would not be surprising to see a different Gunpowder. The plot that follows The Boys themselves is perhaps the least exciting part of the show, so adding more superhero characters to follow seems like a good move. Regardless, it will be exciting to see how Flanery, Wechsler, and Villanueva bring these new characters to life.
