Here's the full release schedule for The Boys season 2. Premiering in 2019 to a rapturous response, Amazon Prime's The Boys is based on the cult comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr and Erin Moriarty among a raft of other big names. Set in a world where superheroes are the pinnacle of commerce and capitalism, the story begins when Hughie Campbell (Quaid) is recruited by Billy Butcher (Urban) to join his small band of vigilante anti-superhero crusaders. The Boys' debut season ended with Butcher discovering his wife, long presumed dead after a mysterious disappearance, alive and well, but raising Homelander's son. It's safe to say the feud between The Boys and The Seven is well and truly on.

The Boys season 2 promises to add some fascinating new faces to the mix, chiefly Aya Cash's Stormfront and Shawn Ashmore's Lamplighter, both superheroes associated with The Seven. Meanwhile, trailers have shown The Boys looking closer to their comic counterparts than ever before - battling supes, causing chaos and, piercing through a whale with a speedboat. When The Boys season 1 premiered in July 2019, the entire season dropped on Amazon Prime in one hit - not an unusual release strategy for a streaming service original. However, The Boys season 2 will employ a more irregular release schedule. Here's when to expect each episode.

The Boys season 2 officially premieres on September 4th 2020, but the first three episodes released a few hours early on September 3rd. However, that's unlikely to happen again with the next batch of episodes. The Boys season 2 episodes will then arrive on Amazon Prime weekly each Friday, with the schedule reading as follows:

Episodes 1, 2 & 3 - September 4th

Episode 4 - September 11th

Episode 5 - September 18th

Episode 6 - September 25th

Episode 7 - October 2nd

Episode 8 - October 9th

Although the order remains unconfirmed at present, the episode titles for The Boys season 2 have been revealed as: "The Big Ride" (rumored to be the season premiere), "Proper Preparation & Planning," "Nothing Like It In The World," "Over The Hill With The Swords Of A Thousand Men," "We Gotta Go Now," "The Bloody Doors Off," "Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker," and "What I Know." Fans of the original comic books will notice plenty of nods to the source material in there.

The reason behind the altered release schedule for The Boys season 2 hasn't been disclosed, but is likely down to the success enjoyed by season 1. The Boys has been widely acclaimed thus far, meaning viewers are more likely to be drawn back each Friday for the next installment. Releasing the first 3 episodes at once gives the audience a chance to become emotionally invested in the story before The Boys season 2 moves to its weekly slot. This method of distribution might also be designed to restrict spoilers emerging online before viewers have a chance to catch up. With Stormfront's arrival, Becca's survival, and Butcher's downward spiral, there are sure to be major developments when The Boys returns, and a staggered release gives the best possible chance at preventing those moments being spoiled. With that said, The Boys season 1 was hugely enjoyable as a binge-worthy box set, so it'll be interesting to see whether the weekly releases have any impact on the show's popularity.
