The pairing of Stormfront and Homelander in The Boys season 2 introduces a whole new dimension of chaos to the Amazon series compared to the comics. Butcher and his fellow vigilantes endured a tough time in the The Boys' debut season, facing seemingly insurmountable odds in their fight against superhero kind. The Boys is set in a world where Vought's Compound V experiments have created a smattering of test subjects possessing superhuman abilities across the globe, and many of these become legitimate superheroes, either on a local level or in the big time. Butcher's Boys aim to fight back against these dangerous, and often reckless, folk. Chief among them both in terms of rank and villainy is Homelander, who instigated a paradigm shift in The Boys' debut season by providing Compound V to terrorists the world over.

The trailer for The Boys season 2 hints towards the fallout of Homelander's plan. American citizens are protesting in the streets, clearly spooked by the rise of super-powered terrorists, and Vought have achieved their goal of dominating the U.S. military through their supply of heroes. But Homelander isn't the only villain changing the playing field. The Boys season 2 will introduce Stormfront, a powerful new member of The Seven and almost certainly a full-on Nazi. Stormfront's appearance in the trailer reveals an even more dramatic change to The Boys than Homelander's terrorist power-up plot - she's creating an entire army of "supes" to lead into battle against the very threat Homelander manufactured.

There's clearly some animosity between Homelander and Stormfront at first, with the leader of The Seven feeling challenged by this cocky new arrival, but trailer footage shows a partnership forged between these villains in The Boys season 2. After finding common ground "lasering her tits," Stormfront and Homelander appear together at a rally preaching the need for more supes, suggesting the pair will find a way to work together for the common bad. Although Homelander might not have foreseen Stormfront blowing into his path, their respective schemes compliment each other perfectly - Homelander created super-terrorists to give Vought's heroes a military presence, and Stormfront's Nazi leanings drive her to create a race of supermen using those very same terrorists as a pretense. For Homelander's part, going along with Stormfront's idea for a super-army is a step towards a world where he's the top dog, rather than the outcast test subject of his youth.

Aya Cash as Stormfront in The Boys

This coming together of Homelander and Stormfront fundamentally changes the nature of The Boys compared to the comic books. In season 1, the setup was simple: Butcher and his lads going up against the might of Vought and their arrogant, narcissistic superheroes in a revenge mission. This is essentially the same concept as the original comics, but the board is laid out very differently in season 2. Now, The Boys don't just have Vought to contend with, but the superhero terrorists produced by Homelander's Compound V smuggling, and the season 2 trailer hints that whoever The Boys are fighting inside a shop is one of these Homelander-powered criminals. Already, this means The Boys aren't just going against superheroes anymore, but super-terrorists also.

However, Stormfront's machinations look set to make life even more difficult for Butcher and his friends (though they might take issue with that term). Aside from terrorists, the trailer footage also seems to show Stormfront's army in action, training against dummies and attacking buildings. One scene focuses on a particularly powerful shaven-headed female contained within some kind of medical facility. This Übermensch uprising adds a more unique spin on both The Boys as a TV adaptation and Stormfront as a character. The new terrorists were intended to give Vought enemies to fight against, meaning they're the responsibility of The Seven more than anyone else. But Stormfront's supe army will be portrayed as heroic protectors, earning them the adulation of the public and lofty social status. Only The Boys will know the true menace behind the new supe-force, and only they'll be trying to stop them. Instead of just The Seven, it'll truly be Butcher, Hughie, M.M., Frenchie and The Female against the world in The Boys season 2 - a fresh direction from the comic books.
