The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke reveals one of his biggest regrets about season 2 - and it might not be what you would expect. Television's craziest and most profane superhero show concluded its second season this weekend with a mind-blowing (literally) finale. Over the course of the past eight episodes, The Boys has seen the explosions of several heads, a poor whale getting impaled by a boat, and an unforgettable side character named Love Sausage. Indeed, The Boys has taken some pretty big swings, particularly in the case of the sadistic and narcissistic Homelander (Antony Starr).

The fourth episode of the season saw Homelander seemingly rendezvous with his boss/lover/mother figure Madelyn Stillwell (Elizabeth Shue), whom he killed in season 1. It's later revealed it is a shape-shifting supe, Doppelganger (Dan Darin-Zanco), who is assuming Madelyn's appearance. While that is certainly a disturbing scenario, things take a turn for the absolute worst when Doppelganger shifts into Homelander himself. Doppelganger as Homelander attempts to boost Homelander's ego and even offers to perform sexual acts for him. Homelander nearly gives in, but kills Doppelganger at the last second.

Fans will need to remember that interaction in order to understand Kripke's biggest season 2 regret. During the after-show Inside The Boys, Kripke admitted that one of the top five things he wishes he could have done differently is to have Doppelganger - as Homelander, of course - follow through with his offer of oral sex. "I feel like we left money on the table with that one," Kripke admitted. "Because he's right there! And you're like 'Oh my God, he's gonna do it!' But then we pull back, and it's like, the money move would've been for him to actually do it." Host Aisha Tyler then clarified whether Homelander would still kill Doppelganger after this, and Kripke replied that yes, yes he would.

The Doppelganger and Homelander interaction isn't the only regret Kripke has from this season, as the showrunner previously said he also wished he hadn't killed Lamplighter (Shawn Ashmore) so soon. Of course, the newest regret is a bit more humorous. Considering the extremely positive reception to The Boys season 2, however, it's safe to say the decisions Kripke made were successful, and that there might not be a lot fans would change.

The Boys season 2 finale left some major plot threads dangling, so it's a relief that season 3 is already in the works. Exactly when it will premiere remains to be seen, but fans are likely hoping it'll drop sometime next year. It already feels like season 2 has taken The Boys to the weirdest, grossest heights, making it near-impossible to top. However, Kripke and his team likely have a lot more insanity up their sleeves, so fans might need to brace themselves for what comes next.
