Who could Jeffrey Dean Morgan potentially play in The Boys? Based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, season 1 of The Boys was a huge hit for Amazon Prime Video and offered a wonderfully offbeat, subversive take on modern superhero tropes. The story is set in a world where superheroes range from self-centered egotists to sadistic murderers, and it's up to a small band of reckless but lovable vigilantes to put the "supes" back in their place.

In charge of Amazon's The Boys is showrunner, Eric Kripke, who, among his various credits, is famous for being the creator of Supernatural, also acting as the showrunner on that series for its first 5 seasons. An integral cast member of this Supernatural era was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Sam and Dean's father, John Winchester, and the actor shared an interesting Twitter exchange with Kripke earlier this month. After Morgan publicly praised The Boys, Kripke offered to cast him in season 3 if his former Supernatural pal was available, to which Morgan happily agreed. Assuming The Boys makes it to a third season (and it should, considering the popularity of the first), who could Morgan potentially play in terms of characters derived from the comics?

One figure that stands out as a leading candidate is Vasilii Vorishikin, better known to his friends as Love Sausage. A former Russian superhero, Mr. Sausage is one of the select few superheroes who acts as an ally to Butcher and the Boys, largely due to his principled nature and hatred for the corporate ego-fest saving the world has become. Possessing super strength, Love Sausage is essentially a perverted Red Guardian and although Amazon might want to tone down some of his views on respecting personal boundaries, Sausage is a colorful character and almost certain to appear within The Boys' next 2 seasons as Butcher's tirade against the supes heats up.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan could be ideally suited to this jaded former superhero. DC fans (and Morgan himself, to an extent) have been campaigning for years to have the actor play Thomas Wayne's Flashpoint Batman, as there's a general consensus he would do well as a morally ambiguous vigilante who doesn't have a great deal of respect for the rules. This is largely thanks to his well-received role as the Comedian in Zack Snyder's Watchmen movie, in which he played a more sinister vigilante. Some of these attributes are also applicable to Love Sausage, while the character's inherent humor and swagger is something Morgan has demonstrated as Negan in The Walking Dead. Negan is a showman with a taste for brutality and isn't afraid a crack a gag at the least convenient time. If you mix together the Comedian, Flashpoint Batman and Negan, and add a sprinkling of The Boys' trademark silliness, the result isn't too far removed from what a live-action Love Sausage could be.

There are a few other figures from Garth Ennis' comic books that Jeffrey Dean Morgan could also play in The Boys, most notably Tek-Knight. As a Bruce Wayne allegory, Tek-Knight may, unfortunately, be the closest Morgan gets to playing the Caped Crusader on-screen. It's also true that Amazon's The Boys hasn't always stuck to the source material when adapting characters for live-action. While the likes of Butcher, Mother's Milk and Homelander are closely faithful interpretations, Stormfront will be played by a woman in season 2, gender-flipping the original. This might give Eric Kripke even more options in finding a part for Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
