In 1993, the Disney Channel released a sitcom called Boy Meets World and it forever shaped many of the viewers who grew up watching it. The sitcom lasted for seven seasons and had a spinoff, Girl Meets World, that lasted for three seasons. The family-friendly show revolved around Cory Matthews and his friends and family as they went through the ups and downs of growth in the suburbia of Philadelphia.

Now that Boy Meets World is available for streaming on Disney+, '90s babies that grew up with the show are rewatching it with fresh eyes. For many, the show is different through the eyes of an adult and has kept many up at night due to heavy storylines, inconsistencies, and character flaws. And while the show has famous quotes that will live on forever, there are also plenty of things that keep fans up at night.

Eric's Change Of Personality

Eric hides in the couch on Boy Meets World

Eric Matthews is Cory's older brother. In the early seasons, Eric is pretty suave, motivated, and bright. But once he reached his senior year of high school, something changed. He was suddenly dimwitted, lazy, and no longer understood sarcasm. His personality worsened once he got into college. The logical part of Eric that wanted more for his life after his cross-country road trip left in seasons 6 and 7.

StencilBoy agreed and told Reddit, "I really, really wish he didn't turn into a complete idiot in seasons 6 and especially 7." They continued saying, "What bothers me most is that season 5 had an arch about him proving that he can get his shit together, get motivated and do well," but nothing ever came from it. Eric was a good brother to Cory and that was as positive as it got for Eric's storyline.

Innuendos That Were Missed Until The Rewatch

Fo a Disney, kid-themed show, there were more inappropriate jokes thrown around than young viewers realize. It's not until viewers watched it as adults that they realized all of the small hidden details and sexual innuendos that were tossed around.

PandaPeeker noted on Reddit, "There are so many innuendos in Boy Meets World if you rewatch it. Just goes to show how innocent you are before the world destroys your mind." For young viewers, it's the character arcs that kept them up at night. But for adults, it's the lowkey dirty talk that shocked them.

A Car... In A Dormroom?

The season 7 episode, 'War,' was not one of Boy Meets World's top episodes. In general, not too many fans are fond of season 7 but it was the absurdities of 'War' that kept fans up at night. In the episode, Jack, Angela, and Rachel were in a prank war against Topanga, Shawn, and Cory. While Rachel and Angela were sleeping, they woke up to a car in the middle of their dorm room. Although Boy Meets World is fictional, fans loathed this storyline because of how unrealistic it was. Just-Tryna-C-Watsup wrote, "How did they get the car in the dorm room? Has this ever been answered? Things that keep me up at night..." Another fan said the only possible answer for this was that it was a "Harry Potter crossover episode."

Continuity Errors

Shows that run for multiple seasons are bound to have continuity errors. With so many storylines and different characters, it can be difficult to keep everything straight. However, the change of actor for Topanga's dad was inexcusable for fans. Over the course of seven seasons, three different actors portrayed Topanga's dad.

After realizing that the series used three different actors for one character, DaveHarrington wrote on Reddit, "WTF is up with casting. Did the show just not care or were they just that cheap/bad to work with that no one wanted to come back or what?" Aside from things young fans didn't know about Topanga's family, continuity issues followed the entire Matthews family.

Why Did Mr. Turner Disapear?

Mr. Turner talks to Cory and Shawn in the hallway on Boy Meets World

At the end of season 3, Mr. Turner stopped appearing and is no longer mentioned in the show. His disappearance was noticeable because he was an adult figure in the show adjacent to Mr. Feeny. He took care of Shawn when his parents abandoned him and he was a dear friend to Mr. Feeny. His absence was felt by fans and an update was never given in the original series. Jshine1337 wrote, "I wish they kept him longer in the following seasons, especially because of his huge impact on Shawn."  The fact that the show's writers wrote him off without an update leaves fans pondering why.

There Was No Reason For Jack & Eric To Leave Their Apartment

Eric pleads with Rachel on Boy Meets World

If there's one thing that keeps fans on Reddit awake at night, it's that Rachel kicked Jack and Eric out of their own apartment.

In season 7, Jack deserved more when he went back to his apartment after his breakup with Rachel and found out that she was still there. Rachel told Jack that she invited Topanga and Angela to live with her now that they were no more. This left Jack and Eric without a home. Considering it was Jack's apartment in the first place, Reddit is furious with Rachel. Yolo1567 wrote, "I never understood why Rachel thought it was okay to kick Jack and Eric out of the apartment when it was his to begin with.." Others agreed and stated it's a decision that left them confused since Jack's name was on the lease.

A Horrible Ending For Shawn And Angela

Angela and Shawn talking seriously in Boy Meets World

Shawn and Angela had one of the best relationships in Boy Meets World. They met at a mature time in their lives where they were happy to be committed to each other. Some fans liked this pairing better than Topanga and Cory's. Nevertheless, when Shawn and Angela broke up, fans felt like they deserved a better ending.

When Angela came back after their breakup and stated that she was married and wanted kids, fans were shocked. Swaye23 wrote, "They brought her back as if she was one of his many flings, when she was at one point everything to Shawn." Another fan wrote in disgust, "The fact that he literally wanted to propose to her but didn’t just to let her leave with her dad and then that was the ending we got with them? Huh?"

Shawn's Mom's Disappearance Was Unnecessary

Cory talks to Shawn's mom in her motel on Boy Meets World

In the fourth season, Shawn's mom, Virna, came back after a year on the run. She promised to be a better mom and wife to make up for her past mistakes. But much like Mr. Turner, Virna wasn't shown again after season 4. To make matters worse, Shawn found out in season 7 that Virna wasn't his biological mother. Fans thought this was a great opening for Shawn to find his real mom and have a healthy relationship with a parent but it went nowhere. It made no sense for Boy Meets World to announce Shawn had a new mom if they weren't going to introduce her.

Mega_whale asked, "Why did Shawn’s mother just run away again without explanation? They could of gotten another actress to fill the role especially after they had 3 totally different-looking men play Topanga’s father."

And What About Morgan?

Shawn and Cory sit with Morgan at home on Boy Meets World

Morgan was one of the most likable characters in the early episodes, but she made fewer and fewer appearances as the show carried on. The fact that "Morgan disappears" annoyed LavenderJayde on RedditSince the show is focused on the Matthews family, Morgan's absence kept fans up at night. Why were her storylines pushed aside instead of being showcased like the rest of the family's?

Why Did Cory & Topanga Have To End Up Together?

As much as fans loved the bond between Cory and Topanga, some felt like the series gave them false hopes when to relationships. Considering the show was supposed to be a "realistic coming of age" series, Brigros was bothered that Topanga and Cory were endgame after growing up together. " They asked, "Why was it necessary to have Cory and Topanga be together forever?" The two grew up together and married despite some serious red flags, which bothered viewers. Some felt they were better off as friends instead of being forced to settle for one another.
