San Diego Comic-Con, a yearly haven for pop culture aficionados around the world, gets underway in less than a week. This year's 4-day event will begin Thursday, with full schedules through Saturday already released and major film and television studios like Warner Bros., Marvel and Disney announced to attend.
Warner Bros. Television (WBTV) and DC Entertainment are teaming up for a three-hour panel featuring Gotham, Constantine, The Flash and Arrow, while Marvel is scheduled to present its own television slate which includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Disney has revealed Star Wars Rebels will take part too, but Star Wars: Episode VII is missing from the lineup.
On the film front, some of the biggest titles attending the festivities are The Hobbit 3, Mad Max 4, Jupiter Ascending and Crimson Peak. In the superhero world, Fantastic Four, Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron are expected to appear.
Yet NBCUniversal is another company who will have a very big presence this year. Series The Blacklist, Bates Motel, Hannibal and Grimm will each headline their own panel, and upcoming stop-motion film The Boxtrolls has even planned multiple events for the weekend.
Focus Features, American stop-motion studio LAIKA and The Boxtrolls are headed to Comic-Con for a highly anticipated Hall H panel, as well as a unique “Eat Like THE BOXTROLLS” challenge and food truck experience. They've also released four new character posters fans can get that are signed by the film's star Isaac Hempstead Wright (Game of Thrones). Here's what visitors can expect to see:
From the creators of Coraline and ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls is another family friendly film, but Focus Features has definitely decided to go all out in its promotion at Comic-Con. Allowing attendees the chance to eat bugs should make plenty of waves at the event, even if its more likely people would rather just take pictures with the life-sized boxtrolls that will be running around the convention.
However, the newest trailer released for the film looks really promising, combining both gorgeous visuals and a fully developed story, so wide-eyed viewers young and old should really enjoy getting pulled into The Boxtrolls world at Comic-Con.
Would you take the “Eat Like THE BOXTROLLS” challenge, Screen Rant readers? Are you looking forward to the panel and the film? Let us know in the comments.
The Boxtrolls will come out to play in theaters on September 26th, 2014.
