After putting hundreds of hours into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one player has shared a simple yet important gameplay mechanic that prevents Link from falling off ledges - and it seems many other fans did not know this was a possibility. Even five years since its debut, many players are still making new discoveries across Nintendo's open-world version of Hyrule, with some even finding new BOTW secrets after 50 playthroughs.

By now it is no secret to most Zelda fans just how massive and intricate BOTW is compared to previous installments throughout the franchise. Not only is this interpretation of Hyrule considered by many to be unmatched in terms of level design, but the gameplay itself is also deceptively layered. User discoveries are still being shared to this day, with players not only uncovering cut content and scrapped game mechanics, but even new tricks and tips to help others on their quest to save Hyrule.

Reddit user and Zelda: Breath of the Wild fan InsertUsEerNaMe recently discovered that holding the ZL button when near a ledge means Link will not fall off. The player tested this on a variety of ledges and discovered that the input even works on rafts. Upon sharing this discovery, many other fans admitted this was new information to them as well, further adding to BOTW's reputation of harboring secrets. InsertUsEerNaMe even acknowledged in a comment that they personally only made this discovery after more than 300 hours in-game.

This Breath of the Wild tip is not totally fool-proof according to some of the comments, however. For the command to work, the ledge has to be a sheer drop no matter how high it actually is, meaning it won't work for all ledges. If there is a bit of a subtle slope off of the edge, Link will simply start walking down it instead of being barred by the invisible wall of ZL.

Even though a fair bit of attention in the Zelda community has shifted to the eventual arrival of Breath of the Wild 2, Nintendo's 2017 Game of the Year continues to prove that it still has a lot to offer players, even five years post-launch. For fans to still be finding new tricks and tips, like this way to prevent Link from falling off ledges, is a testament to the design of the Switch classic. If Nintendo wants the sequel to at least live up to the standard set by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then the developer likely has a lot of work ahead of them.
