One dedicated and patient Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player has finally opened one of the game's glitched treasure chests, also known as "impossible chests." Completionists may know that these treasures must be found in order to truly collect everything in the game, but some buggy code has made the chests impossible to reach. One particular chest has been buried deep in the earth beneath Hateno Village, available only to those who know exactly how to use Breath of the Wild's glitches to their advantage.

Breath of the Wild is no doubt one of the most beloved, detailed, and beautiful games in the Zelda franchise. However, the game is not without its flaws. The open world action-adventure game actually contains quite a few glitches, some more annoying than others. One handy glitch, for example, recently allowed fans to play Breath of the Wild in first-person. On the less advantageous side, there are the glitched treasure chests. Those who upgrade the game's Sheikah Sensor to become a treasure chest sensor may discover some areas where the sensor goes crazy, but no treasure chests can be found. That's because these chests are hidden beneath the map. With a little bit of effort, though, players can glitch their way into finding the chests.

Reddit user vohnandrew managed to reach Hateno Village's impossible chest using a series of clever maneuvers and a combination of Link's Rune abilities. In a video, the player could be seen jumping into the air and clipping through the ground on Hateno village's path. Once they completely sunk through the ground to reach the underside of the map, they used the paraglider to reach a flat area of the mountain near a body of water. From there, the player used Cryonis cubes to jump over to a waterfall in the distance. Finally, using Magnesis, they pulled the chest out from behind the waterfall to collect a purple rupee, worth 50 of the game's ubiquitous currency.

All that work seems like quite a lot for only 50 rupees. Of course, a completionist will probably do whatever it takes to nab every last treasure chest in the game, which is quite the satisfying feeling. It can certainly feel frustrating to know that Breath of the Wild holds so many unattainable treasures, yet still expects fans to obtain these rewards in order to finally quiet their Shiekah Sensor for good. Those glitches are not easy to work around and often take many tries to get right, so it's up to players to decide if it's all worth prizes as inconsequential as one purple rupee.

Like any game, Breath of the Wild's glitches can either help or hinder a player's progress. The developers even apparently left some glitches in the game on purpose to add another layer of discovery and fun for Zelda fans. That's definitely a great thing, but it would have been nice to see them take care of those progress-hindering bugs that nobody enjoys. For now, Breath of the Wild players will just have to continue implementing glitches like this in order to get those impossible achievements.
