One unlucky Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild player’s strategic attack was cut short when a hulking Hinox foiled the user's plan with a show of brute strength. Fans have uncovered plenty of fun tricks and secrets within Nintendo’s latest open-world RPG since it first launched on the Nintendo Switch back in 2017, from figuring out how to obtain the legendary Master Sword with a campfire to arranging a meeting between BOTW's Prince Sidon and Ganon at Hyrule Castle.

Breath of the Wild players can manipulate the game world through user-discovered bugs and exploits which allow for more freedom of play and rarer encounters. Plenty of these wild occurrences in The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild involve strange glitches and quirks in enemy programming, which can be used to alter the game to allow things that don't typically occur. Fans have used these exploits to trick the thieving Yiga Clan into stealing the ancient Thunder Helm from their own stronghold, and even teach a Lizalfos how to play soccer with one of Link's trusty Remote Bombs. More passive players have seen naturally-occurring in-game encounters such as sheep who huddle together during rainstorms, and BOTW Lynels teleport that away.

Reddit user Lamceddo posted a brief gameplay clip of a chance encounter with a Hinox to r/Breath_of_the_Wild, showing off a strategic attack foiled by the enemy. In the video, the player's Link climbs atop a towering mushroom platform to snipe at the sleeping giant with his bow and arrow. However, the Hinox soon wakes up and smashes the platform to pieces, sending Link plummeting to the ground below. Other players commenting on the post have revealed this is a naturally-occurring encounter and not a game glitch, explaining that this is caused by Breath Of The Wild coding these odd mushrooms as trees, which Hinoxes have been known to grab while fending off any bow-wielding intruders.

Seemingly random Breath of the Wild encounters like this are one of the many reasons that the game is considered to be one of the greatest in the long-running Legend Of Zelda series. BOTW’s success has led Nintendo to begin work on a direct sequel, though many details surrounding the tentatively-titled Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 are still being held closely under wraps. Nintendo revealed that BOTW 2 is currently set for release sometime in 2022.

In the meantime, fans continue to discover neat little secrets and Easter eggs within Breath Of The Wild, including the many ways Link’s foes can gain the upper hand even when it seems that the green tunic-wearing hero has the drop on them. Such was the case when Lamceddo’s well-laid plans were literally smashed out from under them, proving that having the high ground doesn’t always lead to success, especially when it comes to clever enemies in BOTW.
