Amazon Prime Video's Bosch ended in 2021, and the streaming service launched Bosch: Legacy the following year — and with the spinoff's second season arriving in 2023 and a third on the way, there's plenty to recap from the original show. Bosch is based on Michael Connelly's popular novel series that started in 1992 with The Black Echo. Amazon Prime Video's Bosch covered several of the novels including The Concrete Blonde (Book 3), City of Bones (Book 8), and Echo Park (Book 12). Bosch: Legacy continues the story further with Titus Welliver once again in the lead.

The final season of Bosch answered many questions while leaving several storylines lingering, and there are a few connections between the original show and Bosch: Legacy that aren't as clear without a recap. The first season of Bosh: Legacy saw him living a retired life when his archenemy, Carl Rogers, escaped, and he set out to investigate as a private investigator working outside the police force. While this is a fresh start for Bosch in his life, there are still lingering threads and characters that viewers should keep in mind when they start watching his new adventures in the series, which is currently in production on Bosch Legacy season 3.

Bosch: Legacy is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

10 Hollywood Homicide Division Closes Down

The Officers Went Their Separate Ways On Bosch

Crate and Barrell in Bosch.

Hollywood Homicide Division is no more in Bosch: Legacy, and all the detectives went their separate ways after Bosch. Pierce was assigned to the graveyard shift, while Vega was set to partner with Bosch in West Hollywood. Bosch chose to turn in his badge, though, so it affected both their fates. Crate and Barrel also remained off on their own. Did their positions with CAPS dissolve with the rest of the homicide division, and if not, would they potentially follow Bosch into the private sector? Bosch: Legacy takes things in a different direction, and it survives without the unit as a whole.

9 J. Edgar Moves On

Detective Jerry Edgar Made A Guest Appearance In Bosch: Legacy

Despite a season where Detective Edgar almost wrecked his career, he walked away with a coveted position at RHD when season 7 wrapped. J. Edgar's self-destructive behavior landed Maddie in the crosshairs during a hostile interview, but his concern for her trumped his guilt over prior actions, and he pulled himself together just in time. After playing a key role in protecting Maddie, Jerry and Bosch ended the original show on good terms, with Bosch likely playing a key role in getting Jerry the position at RHD. Even though they didn't cross paths much moving forward, Bosch has a friend in the department he can count on.

8 Billets Made Captain

Grace Took Down Captain Cooper

Grace Billets stands in the middle of several police cars in Bosch.

After watching Billets and her girlfriend get harassed by a couple of misogynistic detectives, viewers finally saw Grace get justice, putting them in cuffs along with sleazy Captain Cooper. It was a refreshing win for not just Billets, but all the women of the LAPD. In one of his better moves during Bosch season 7, Irving offered Billets the Captaincy in Cooper's place.

Grace's direction is no longer running alongside Harry's, and it is unlikely the two will cross paths often. While she hasn't appeared in the spinoff yet, Billets could return in Bosch: Legacy season 3, showing Maddie how to rise to a position of power in a predominantly male-driven environment.

7 Irving Remains Chief

Lance Reddick Made One Last Appearance Before His Death In Bosch: Legacy Season 2

With his usual self-serving efficiency, Irving pulled off the impossible - getting re-elected for a second term as Chief of Police despite the new mayor wanting him gone. While he is far from the dirtiest cop on TV, Irving's willingness to hand over the man responsible for the death of a ten-year-old girl firmly placed him as the antithesis to everything Bosch stands for. Though Harry is no longer a member of the LAPD, there is still a chance that he will cross paths with Irving, and the interaction will likely not be a pleasant one. Irving appeared in the Bosch: Legacy season 2 finale, but due to the tragic passing of Lance Reddick, Irving won't return.

Actor Lance Reddick Passed Away On March 17, 2023.

6 Scott Anderson Got The Scoop Of The Year

Scott Was Able To Help Bring Down Police Corruption

Scott Anderson looking to his left in Bosch.

Anderson's final deal with Bosch landed him some serious dirt on Chief Irving, which he was expected to put to good use. Anderson was the one to originally tip Bosch off on Irving's dealings with the FBI, and in return, Bosch brings him in when he arrests Pina against direct orders, letting him know just how deep the conspiracy goes. The crime-beat reporter and Bosch's relationship began as a highly adversarial one, and though they still don't see eye-to-eye, the two used each other to mutual benefit at the close of Bosch. Anderson appears again in Bosch Legacy season 2.

5 COVID May Be Coming To Hollywood

The End Of Bosch Hinted At The Virus

Characters from Bosch Legacy standing next to each other on the poster of Bosch Legacy

Throughout the final season of Bosch, mentions of a mysterious new virus making its way into the country could be caught on television in the background of various scenes. While never directly mentioned by anyone on the show, fans know exactly what this virus is, and the devastating impact it will have on the world. However, it has yet to be seen how Bosch: Legacy will handle the rampaging virus, or if it's still going to be a plot thread.

Maddie's boyfriend, Antonio, is a pediatric nurse, so the virus could hit close to home. The show could take the approach of several other shows and move past the entire pandemic as if it never happened. In either case, viewers could expect some changes to Bosch's Hollywood.

4 Carl Rogers Is Not A Nice Guy

Carl Is The Catalyst Of Bosch: Legacy

Carl Rogers looking serious in Bosch.

Carl Rogers was behind the hitman who shot Honey Chandler and nearly killed Maddie, and he's still alive in Bosch: Legacy, continuing to play a crucial part in both seasons of the sequel spinoff. Rogers was the hedge fund millionaire who was supposedly involved in an insider trading racket that Chandler was leveraging to keep her client out of prison.

Maddie was present for the client's confession, and both Chandler and Maddie wound up as targets. While Rogers didn't get a lot of screen time in Bosch season 7 before his dramatic arrest just before flying out of town on a private jet, he returns to Bosch: Legacy. The character was originally portrayed by Max E. Williams but was replaced by Michael Rose.

3 Honey Chandler Is Awake

Honey Returns As A Main Character In Bosch: Legacy

Harry and Honey walking and talking in Bosck.

The last time fans saw the defense attorney, she woke from a coma to find Maddie at her side after surviving an assassination attempt. She spent the second half of the season in a medically induced coma. Chandler has been both a nemesis for Bosch and a mentor and friend to Maddie throughout her tenure on the show, and it was a relief to see her alive. What kind of effect the near-death experience will have on her? Will she and Bosch continue to butt heads, or will they end up going from enemies to lovers? Honey Chandler returns as a recurring character throughout Bosch Legacy.

2 Maddie Follows Her Parents' Footsteps

Maddie Is One Of The Leads In Bosch: Legacy

Maddie talking to Harry in Bosch.

With both parents in law enforcement, it only seemed natural for Maddie to join the fray. Though she seemed ready to go to law school and seek a way to enact change as a prosecutor, watching her mentor fight for her life, and being targeted herself brought about a shift in perspective for Bosch's daughter in a way that her mother's death was never able to do. With Maddie joining the force, viewers see a bit more of the inner workings of the LAPD from the rookie's point of view in Bosch: Legacy. With Maddie working her father's old beat, there should be plenty of opportunities for Bosch favorites to make an appearance or two.

1 Bosch Became A Private Investigator

Harry Bosch Has A New Job In Bosch: Legacy

Harry Bosch lives with a strict moral compass. The events of season 7 rocked Bosch's faith in the system to his core, and in one final explosive showdown with Chief Irving, he finally quits for good. Unable to work for an organization that does not uphold his belief that everyone counts, Bosch was last seen filling out the forms to acquire his P.I. license.

Viewers of Bosch: Legacy spend time with a Bosch who can seek justice without the red tape that hindered him during his tenure with the LAPD. It will be interesting to continue to see him navigate the different rules that come with his new career path in Bosch: Legacy season 3.
