Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #80 of BorutoBoruto's huge revelation that Sarada Uchiha has awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan could explain one of the series biggest mysteries. Until now, Sarada is one of the only two non-Otsutsuki characters in the series who are immune to Eida's power of Omnipotence, and the abilities of her Mangekyo could be the reason why.

Chapter #80 of Boruto is a momentous one, closing off the first part of the manga after a huge cliffhanger. Kawaki has exploited Eida's Otsutsuki ability, aptly called Omnipotence, to rewrite everyone's mind into thinking that he is the son of Naruto while Boruto is the outsider who fled Konoha after killing the Hokage. Sasuke's daughter Sarada is the only one immune to that power (along with Sumire), and the trauma of seeing Boruto hunted by his friends is enough to awaken her Mangekyo Sharingan. The timing of this event, along with the peculiar look of Sarada's Mangekyo, hint that this trademark Uchiha power could be the reason why she is immune to Eida's ability.

Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan Could Make Her Immune To Eida's Power

Sarada awakens Mangekyo Sharingan in Boruto

The Mangekyo is an advanced form of the Uchiha's clan signature eye technique, the Sharingan, which can be awakened only by a few gifted individuals after enduring a very traumatic experience. Sasuke, for example, awakened his Mangekyo after killing his brother Itachi and learning the truth about his supposed betrayal of Konoha. Every Mangekyo grants its user one or more specific techniques, such as the black flames of Amaterasu or the infinte illusion of Tsukuyomi. Additionally, each Mangekyo Sharingan has a unique apperance which changes the shape of the Tomoe in the eye of the user.

Sarada's Mangekyo takes the distinctive shape of a sun, which is a symbol of enlightenment and dispersing the shadows of doubt and conspiracy. The sun shape could also tease an antithetic connection with the Otsutsuki clan, as its members have been traditionally associated with the Moon in the series. Their appearance resembles that of the "moon rabbit" of Japanese folklore, and Kaguya was trapped in the Moon by her sons Hagoromo and Hamura. Thus, Sarada's signature Mangekyo ability could be connected to the concepts of seeing the truth and dispelling illusions, including those created by the Otsutsuki's Omnipotence technique. If this isn't enough, the timing of Sarada's Mangekyo awakening is a strong hint that there is a connection with the terrible fate that has struck Boruto, and it would be perfect if Sarada becomes the key to save her friend/love interest in the upcoming part 2 of the series.

Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan Will Make Her Fundamental For Boruto Part 2

It is true that, when Eida used Omnipotence, Sarada's Mangekyo had not been activated yet, but it has been shown in Naruto that sometimes the abilities of a Mangekyo can manifest in a limited way before its activation. This was the case with Obito, who phased through the rocks that were trapping his body with Kamui shortly before formally awakening his Mangekyo. It's also important to remember that the Uchiha are descendant of Hagoromo's elder Son, Indra, and thus they have some Otsutsuki genes. However, Sasuke was not immune to Omnipotence, meaning that, if the Mangekyo Sharingan is truly the reason for Sarada's immunity, this is an ability exclusive to her, which will finally give the young Uchiha a prominent role once Boruto comes back with its second part.
