Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Boruto #77While it's clear that Code's pending attack has more than a little to do with his desire to get revenge on Kawaki, and punish Naruto's son Boruto, there's an even more critical reason driving his desire to declare war on Konoha Village.

Elevated to Kara leader after the deaths of Isshiki Otsutsuki and other Inner members, Boruto villain Code took it upon himself to complete the organization's mission, including the murder of Naruto, Konoha Village's Seventh Hokage. However, after Amado, Eida, and Daemon's defection to Konaha, Code was left with few top-level operatives to help carry out his tasks. Instinctively, he then went underground at a secret Kara base. As revealed in Boruto #77, Code wasn't just resting and recuperating, he's been using his time to build the "grime claws" an army of mutant soldiers, which he plans to use to attack Konoha. He already has 1,000 soldiers and production is ongoing.

For Code, Getting To Boruto or Kawaki Is Just Business

Boruto - Isshiki Visits Code-1

While Code's insistence on carrying out the original Kara's goals can be attributed to his devotion to Isshiki and his desire to get revenge on Kawaki and Boruto for disrespecting him is a natural emotional response, there's a deeper reason to kill the young ninja duo. Even with his army, considering the abilities of Naruto and his allies, an attack on Konoha seems foolish, even for someone as hot-tempered and impetuous as Code. But, the real reason Code wants, and will, attack Konoha is not based on his emotions, rather it's for a cold, practical consideration - he must do it to become an Otsutsuki.

Back in Boruto #55, after Kawaki, Naruto, and Sasuke were able to stop Isshiki from fully transferring his soul from Jigen to Kawaki, but before his soul completely disintegrated, Isshiki used an astral image to speak with Code. Isshiki asked Code to continue Kara's mission. But Code was unsure why that would be necessary without Isshiki. Isshiki then told Code that if he were to sacrifice either Boruto or Kawaki to the Ten-Tailed Beast, he'd be able to cultivate a God Tree as originally planned. Moreover, if Code ate the fruit of a God Tree, he would become an Otsutsuki. This is possible because of his white Kama which did not allow Isshiki to transfer his soul to Code, but can make him Otsutsuki in certain circumstances.

For Code, a young man who would willingly give up his own life to have an Otsutsuki take over his body, the idea of becoming his very own Otsutsuki is a dream come true. The motivational impact of that possibility on Code could not be greater. It also clarifies why he will attack Konoha despite the odds. He actually has nothing to lose. In his perfect world, he not Kawaki would have been Isshiki's sacrifice - he was going to die anyway. But now, if he dies it will be trying to take out Boruto or Kawaki, two people he has no love for.

Conversely, if he succeeds at killing either Kawaki or Boruto he will literally get to live his dream. With that type of incentive, perhaps Naruto and the Konoha brain trust should be a bit more worried about Code's threat to Boruto than they are at present.
