Warning: spoilers ahead for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 61!

Having pledged to protect his son Boruto and the ostracized Kawaki, Naruto is taking full advantage of his position as Hokage by creating a massive barrier that senses chakra around the Hidden Leaf Village. The boys' lives are in peril as a result of them helping Naruto and Sasuke destroy the former leader of the Kara organization, Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, a cruel and ruthless warrior who had both taken over the body of Jigen and been raising Kawaki to serve as his next vessel.

At the onset of the villain's death, Kara's last active Inner, Code, unleashed a wave of cyborgs to descend upon the Hidden Leaf where they now lie in wait for the perfect opportunity to attack the village. Originally, it was believed that Naruto had only dispatched ninjas to constantly surveil Boruto and Kawaki, reporting anything the two boys said and did. But chapter 61 reveals that Naruto also erected a massive barrier known as a Sensory Net that automatically checks the chakra of those who enter and exit the village.

Since every form of chakra is unique, the Sensory Net treats these energy signatures like fingerprints. The barrier compares the chakra against a database of known ninja to identify whether the individual leaving or entering the village is recognized. If the chakra belongs to a person not in the database, then headquarters will determine if the newcomer is an enemy. At the moment, the Sensory Net doesn't scan people residing in the village, as that would be a violation of privacy. The barrier is currently restricted to those entering and leaving the village. There is one downside, however. If the enemy can erase their chakra signature, then the barrier will be unable to scan and match their energy.

Luckily (and unluckily) for Naruto, Boruto and Kawaki aren't the main targets of the intended attack. In an earlier chapter, Code revealed that he made an exception for Kawaki on account of his respect for Ada, a member of Kara who had requested that Code spare Kawaki so he could be her mate. Ada originally showed interest in Boruto as well, since both Boruto and Kawaki have Ōtsutsuki genes, but she has obviously set her sights on Kawaki especially. When sensing that Kawaki was upset that he couldn't protect the Hokage from Code, Ada attempted to sway Kara's Inner in sparing Naruto's life so as not to cause Kawaki any more anguish. But Code makes it abundantly clear to her that that is the one concession he cannot grant. He wants nothing more than to kill Naruto with his own two hands.

Although Naruto undoubtedly created the Sensory Net to protect his son Boruto and Kawaki, the barrier's true purpose will actually be to shield him from Code's vengeance. And he's going to need all the help he can get. Regardless, this act of kindness is just another touching example of how much Naruto cares for his son. Their relationship had been very rocky earlier on in the series, with Boruto being unappreciative of how Naruto spent the vast majority of his time at work rather than with him and their family, a feeling that was exacerbated by the fact that he only got Naruto's attention when he was reprimanded or punished. Boruto finally came to appreciate his father's status and responsibility as Hokage, however, once he saw how capably Naruto fought against Jigen, realizing why it's crucial for his father to work so hard because everyone undoubtedly depends on him.

Since then, Naruto has made some changes to his personal life by finding more time to spend with his family despite the overwhelming amount of hours he needs to devote to his work. Of course, Naruto wants to protect Boruto and Kawaki as party of his duty as Hokage, but the employment of the Sensory Net as well as dispatching twenty-four-hour surveillance are just further proof of how deeply he feels.
