Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #79 of BorutoIt seems impossible that Boruto could somehow introduce a power more broken than those that already appeared, but the series still had an ace up its sleeve: "Omnipotence". The crazy effects of this new Shinjutsu, which extends to all the world, prove that Boruto has definitively gone too far with its absurd powers.

Chapter #79 of Boruto finally reveals the truth about Eida's mysterious ability to make people fall in love with her, showing that this is actually an even more broken power called Omnipotence. Even the girl was unaware of the nature and extent of her power, which essentially can make any desire become reality. Triggered by her feelings for Kawaki and by the boy's twisted desire to protect Naruto and Konoha, Omnipotence activates and alters the minds of the entire world, switching Kawaki and Boruto's roles and history so that the former is now the Hokage's son, and Boruto is the outsider and traitor.

Omnipotence Does Exactly What Its Name Says

Eida uses Omnipotence to help Kawaki in Boruto

Like all other Shinjutsu, Omnipotence is an ability originally possessed by the Otsutsuki clan and then replicated artificially by the scientist Amado in a human (Eida). Shinjutsu were developed by Otsutsuki Shibai, the strongest member of the clan who ascended to true divinity by harvesting and eating countless Chakra Fruits, and are thus considered the supreme techniques. Amado says that shinobi and sage arts (Ninjutsu and Senjutsu) are only attempts to reproduce the effects of Shinjutsu, which should be considered divine miracles.

It is well known that Boruto has, for the most part, forgone the ninja techniques that made its predecessor Naruto famous, in favor of the controversial Otsutsuki powers such as Karma. After the introduction of the absurd abilities derived from Shibai's DNA, which Amado implanted in Eida and her brother Daemon, it seemed impossible that the series could come up with something crazier, but it just did. Omnipotence is, as the name suggests, the most broken ability ever introduced in the franchise. When it activates in this chapter, its effect spread to the entire planet because "every person's consciousness is linked by chakra", which sounds like a lazy explanation. Coming after a string of increasingly overpowered abilities that overshadow any real plot development, Omnipotence could be the last straw for Boruto.

Boruto Pushed Its Reliance On Broken Powers Too Far

Momoshiki explains Omnipotence in Boruto

One of the biggest criticisms moved to Naruto is that, by the end of the series, characters like Sasuke and Naruto had gotten too strong and their powers too god-like. Boruto proved that it could do a lot worse, introducing a series of actual god-like abilities that exist outside the intricate power system of ninjutsu and senjutsu that Naruto established. The other Otsutsuki powers, however, still had to be applied in combat and could be countered in some way, but Omnipotence simply makes any desire come true, and there is no way to avoid it. Omnipotence acts as the ultimate plot device to push the story in the desired direction, showing that Boruto's reliance on broken powers has finally gone too far.
