Kevin Hart is showing off his Borderlands physique in a shirtless photo. Currently in production, the upcoming adaptation of the massively popular video game series comes from the minds of horror master Eli Roth, who is directing, and Chernobyl and The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin, who penned the screenplay based on the Gearbox game. After breaking through with indie hits like Cabin Fever and Hostel, Borderlands marks the first time Roth is helming a major tentpole for Lionsgate.

Much of the film’s cast has been teased through set photos, yet they have purposefully not revealed much. Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart headline the cast as vault hunters Lilith and Roland. In the video games, these characters, as indicated by their title, trek across vast wastelands in search of mythical vaults said to contain various treasures. However, like many video game adaptations, the Borderlands movie will tell its own original story involving the search for Atlas' (Edgar Ramirez) missing daughter. A recent peek into the film’s soundstage in Budapest provided various teases, such as Roth twirling a Vladof Infinity pistol, and now a major cast member is revealing their shirtless physique.

Kevin Hart shared the shirtless photo on Instagram, showing off his hard-earned physique that would make even his frequent co-star Dwayne Johnson proud. Other than his muscles, Hart revealed that Borderlands is close to wrapping production, teasing an adaptation that is “super special and unexpected.” Check out Hart’s post below:

In the games, Roland is the prototypical soldier. He is a highly trained member of the Atlas corporation’s private military and is proficient with just about every type of weapon and experienced in many different combat situations. To prepare for this role, Hart not only had to look the part, but he also had to undergo weapons training and practice hand-to-hand combat with none other than the US Navy SEALs.

Hart has previously starred in films that featured plenty of action, like Central Intelligence, Ride Along, and Jumanji, but the actor has never really been considered an action star. As a comedian, Hart’s film roles have always leaned more towards comic relief, which is why his casting as the oft-serious soldier raised so many eyebrows. If this photo is any indication, Hart is poised to surprise many with his turn as Roland in Borderlands.
