On top of its own individual merit as a fine balance of FPS and RPGBorderlands 3 has succeeded in capturing the eccentric, over-the-top, bubbly-yet-brutal tone that is, ultimately, the definition of the Borderlands series as a whole through the careful application of characters. For players of the previous two installations, the trademark blend of capital B Big playable characters, loveable - if deranged - allied NPCs, and an antagonist as charismatic as they are psychopathic (this time split between a pair of twins) feels like a coming home to a house filled with guns and loot. Even the more Lovecraftian DLC keeps up the ecstatic tone of mirthful desolation that is the Borderlands ethos. The contrast of bright - sometimes to the point of cloying, Claptrap - characters against the grim, blasted hellscapes of alien worlds makes everything about the game pop in a unique way. The well-defined characters make the grind for an infinity of guns, legendary or otherwise, just a bit more engaging.

Fittingly, the game also allows players to customize their characters to a substantial degree. The four PCs have three skill trees a piece that changes how they are played, be it through bringing in a suite of animal companions, choosing what flavor of fist your Siren can throw, or gently altering the effectiveness of a particularly handsome hologram. Given that the addition of new characters is unlikely, being able to fiddle with the allocation of skill points is key to keeping things fresh. Luckily, there is a way to double back on the skill paths, resetting and respecing characters to experience all they have to offer - for a small fee, of course. This guide will explain how to reset used skill points to restructure lovingly built characters from pretty much the ground up. Experimentation is always rewarding for the discerning damage dealer.

Resetting Skill Points in Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 Respec Menu

Unlike most good things in life, resetting skill points is not free, but it is easy. The first thing to do is head to the Quick Change Machine. Accessible on the Sanctuary once it has taken off from Pandora, the green booth of a vending machine is found around the back of the ship. Simply interact with the machine and select the "Respec" option found at the bottom of the options list. The price will be a percentage of your money - the more you have, the more it costs. While this is not great for the wealthier vault hunters, it does mean that the option will always be on the table. After doing this, just head back into the skill tree menu to find all of the points spent so far available for allocation. Rebuild, refocus, and get back into the fight - the money won't yoink itself, after all.
