The Borderlands 3 Loot the Universe event is delivering exactly what it promises. The event comes almost a month after the game’s Guns, Love, & Tentacles DLC, which itself hinted at a popular vault hunter’s return. Guns, Love, & Tentacles also brought back the Rare Enemy mechanic, which reintroduced deadly enemies that spawned in specific locations and dropped powerful loot, if defeated, including the legendary Hydrafrost Rare Enemy.

Borderlands 3’s developer, Gearbox, has been praised for DLC but come under fire for its internal practices regarding bonuses that were reportedly owed to employees, with CEO Randy Pitchford being accused of withholding the royalty checks from the team. However, Pitchford later refuted this claim, and even provided evidence produced by a member of the Borderlands 3 development team.

According to Game Rant, the Borderlands 3 Loot the Universe event is doing exactly what it promises, “delivering four weeks of Legendary drops on four different Borderlands 3 planets.” The event’s first week will take place on the Pandora - one of the game’s planets - where players will have an increased chance of receiving Legendary loot in each of the planet’s zones. Each zone drops unique Legendary gear, so players will have to venture into each section to get the most out of the event’s increased drop rates and round out their equipment.

Other than the first planet on which the event takes place, Gearbox is only giving small amounts of information regarding the Loot The Universe event. The only information the company has revealed is where the event will go next. Promethea will be the new location beginning April 30, 2020, followed by Eden-6 and Nekrotafeyo on May 14 and May 21, respectively. Players will have the opportunity to acquire Legendary at an increased rate for seven days on each planet, making the event active for a full month.

The Borderlands franchise has been a Gearbox and 2K staple since its debut in 2009. RPG lovers have flocked to the game’s messy, colorful, loot-driven gameplay that is similar in vein to the likes of Bungie’s Destiny franchise. It could even be said that Destiny draws inspiration from the loot mechanics found in Borderlands, which is also not the first of its kind. From Mayhem 2.0 to the Loot the Universe mini-event, Gearbox is notorious for implementing new content on a semi-regular basis to keep its community engaged. It’s difficult to ask for more than keeping a game relevant and entertaining – beyond fixing game breaking bugs and resolving balance issues.
