The first official trailer for Borat 2 confirms that the sequel from Sacha Baron Cohen is coming to Amazon Prime Video this month. It will pick up the story of Kazakhstan's top journalist 14 years after the release of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Cohen's unscripted interactions with unsuspecting Americans made the film a massive success, overcoming controversies and lawsuits to become one of the best comedies of all-time.

A year after Borat hit theaters, Cohen indicated that he would be retiring the character due to its popularity. Borat was more recognizable than Cohen which made the idea of a sequel impossible. However, Cohen was spotted in costume as the Kazakh this summer along with a camera crew. By September, Borat 2 was confirmed and it was reported that the movie had already finished filming. Amazon Studios acquired the rights and fans eagerly awaited the first look at Borat's return.

Now, Amazon Prime Video released the first trailer for Borat 2, officially titled Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The trailer confirms some of the reported plot details and also confirms the October 23 release date on Amazon Prime Video.

Borat 2 was directed by Jason Woliner whose television credits include Human GiantParks and Recreation, and Nathan For You. The story was written by Sacha Baron Cohen and a team of screenwriters including frequent collaborators Anthony Hines (BoratBruno) and Dan Swimer (Who Is America?). Borat's daughter is played by Irina Nowak. Reports are that Borat 2 will take on the Trump administration as part of the story, including an interview with Rudy Guiliani and disrupting Vice President Mike Pence's CPAC speech as seen in the trailer.

Audiences know to expect the unexpected from Sacha Baron Cohen. A Borat sequel seemed like a pipe dream until just a couple months ago and now we are just weeks away from its release. And given Cohen's track record with these documentary comedies, it is safe to assume that the trailer is only a small taste of what to expect in Borat 2. The original featured some of the most shocking scenes seen on film and demonstrated that Cohen is willing to go to extreme lengths in service of his satire.

It's clear that Borat 2 was filmed and edited as quickly as possible to ensure its release prior to the election. References to the COVID-19 pandemic and political division in America indicate that the film will be extremely timely. Cohen crashing a speech by Vice President Mike Pence in character as Borat dressed as President Donald Trump looks like it could be the climax of the film. But knowing Cohen, audiences won't know quite what they are in for until they watch Borat 2.
