A newly released trailer for Disney+'s upcoming show, The Book of Boba Fett, teases "master assassin" Fennec Shand working alongside Boba on Tatooine. A spin-off from the popular Stars Wars show, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett follows the infamous bounty hunter as he takes over territory once controlled by Jabba the Hutt. Created by Star Wars vets Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Robert Rodriguez, the show sees lead actors Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen reprising their roles as Boba and Fennec.

Fennec made her Star Wars debut in season 1, episode 5, of The Mandalorian, "The Gunslinger." In the episode, she is sought by Din Djarin and an opportunistic bounty hunter, Toro Calican, the latter of whom shoots her and seemingly leaves her for dead in the desert of Tatooine. However, season 2 of The Mandalorian reveals that Fennec was actually saved by Boba and had parts of her body replaced with cybernetics. Now forever in his debt, Fennec serves as Boba's new partner and helps him to conquer Tatooine and the remnants of the Hutt cartels. Prior to The Mandalorian, Fennec made her first chronological appearance as a formidable bounty hunter in the animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batchwhere she fights off Clone Force 99 in pursuit of her target, Omega.

With the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett quickly approaching, Star Wars recently released a teaser trailer further hinting at Fennec's role in the show. In the video, a voiceover refers to Fennec as a "master assassin," and shows her facing off against what are presumably her and Boba's enemies through the perspective of her helmet. Show creators have hinted that The Book of Boba Fett will be a darker, grittier take on the criminal underworld of the Star Wars universe, with Wen having explained in a recent interview that the series will be "more like a take on gangster movies," rather than the classic westerns that inspired the original films. It certainly seems like the character of Fennec will be taking a darker path in the show's first season, with the sharpshooting assassin seemingly acting as Boba's advisor and executioner. In an earlier trailer released by Lucasfilm, Fennec is heard telling Boba that she "keeps an eye on everyone," as trust is fragile between Boba and Tatooine's cartel bosses after the death of Bib Fortuna. Perhaps Fennec's new moniker of master assassin teases a much more bloodthirsty, vicious take on the character compared to her earlier Star Wars appearances.

For now, it's hard to tell what exactly fans can expect from The Book of Boba Fett, with the criminal underworld post-Empire being a relatively unexplored concept in the Star Wars cinematic universe. It'll be interesting to see which direction show creators choose to go in with Fennec and if she will stay loyal to Boba after he seizes Jabba's throne. For now, fans can look forward to seeing the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett, which is available for streaming on Disney+ starting Dec. 29th.
