Warning! SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.

Grogu has a tough choice to make between the Jedi and the Mandalorian in The Book of Boba Fett, but Star Wars may hide a twist within the decision. The Book of Boba Fett again put Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett on the sidelines to focus on Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his mission to see Grogu again. In episode 6, the Mandalorian attempts to give Grogu some miniature Mandalorian armor, but Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) stops him. Din Djarin learns that his presence will be detrimental to Grogu's training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), so Mando leaves before delivering the gift to Baby Yoda. At the end of the episode, Luke Skywalker gives Baby Yoda a choice between the Mandalorian armor or taking Yoda's (Frank Oz) lightsaber.

There's a profoundness in Luke Skywalker teaching Grogu. In the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), helps carry out Order 66, killing younglings at the Jedie Temple. Though Grogu survived the massacre, the incident has caused significant trauma in Baby Yoda's life. So by having Luke Skywalker train Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars creates a full-circle moment, letting Anakin's son help heal the trauma Darth Vader caused.

Though Grogu seems to have a tough choice in The Book of Boba Fett, there may be a twist coming in his decision. In The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, Luke Skywalker gives Grogu an ultimatum. Grogu can choose to take Yoda's lightsaber and continue his Jedi training, or the little character can take the Mandalorian armor and forsake the ways of the Jedi. He can only choose one path, according to Luke. However, Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi famously tells Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith that "only a Sith deals in absolutes." The quote may reveal that Luke isn't truly asking Grogu to choose between Jedi or Mandalorian.

The Book of Boba Fett Luke Skywalker Grogu

Luke may simply be testing Grogu. Obi-Wan Kenobi's line is still relevant in Star Wars. Since only a Sith would deal in absolutes, it's strange that Luke Skywalker makes Grogu choose one path or the other. In reality, Luke Skywalker may be testing Grogu's Jedi faith. If he chooses the way of the Jedi, Luke may still give Grogu his armor, as the act would show Grogu is steadfast in his practice. However, if he chooses the way of the Mandalorian, his heart may not be in the Jedi training anyway.

If Luke Skywalker truly makes Grogu choose one path or the other, it's a hypocritical move for the Jedi. After all, Luke Skywalker has attachments to his family and friends in Star Wars, and he successfully balances that with being a Jedi. Grogu can do the same. Truthfully, Grogu may not need much training from Luke Skywalker anyway. In The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, Luke even says Grogu is basically remembering his former training instead of learning new tricks. So Grogu may be fine in forsaking the Jedi path. However, it's a weird offer for Luke to make in the first place.
