The Book of Boba Fett episode count has been revealed and it is less than some might have been expecting. First teased at the end of The Mandalorian season 2 before being officially announced a few days later, The Book of Boba Fett will be the star vehicle for one of Star Wars' most beloved fan-favorite characters. The series will see Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) as he tries to unite the various criminal underworld factions after Jabba the Hutt's death in Return of the Jedi left a power vacuum.

The Book of Boba Fett is set to premiere on Disney+ on December 29, 2021, shortly after Hawkeye wraps up its run on the streaming service. It is filling the late-winter slot The Mandalorian has occupied, as well as the Star Wars December offering that has become almost annual since the release of The Force Awakens back in 2015. Since The Mandalorian seasons tend to run eight episodes, many assumed the same would go for The Book of Boba Fett, given it has much of the same creative team behind it.

However, Lucasfilm has now confirmed The Book of Boba Fett's episode count is seven via the official Star Wars Twitter account. The tweet also highlighted posters of Boba Fett and Fennic Shand (Ming-Na Wen), who made her debut and teamed up with the bounty hunter in The Mandalorian. More posters are expected to drop after each new episode, as they did with that series. It is unclear if The Book of Boba Fett was always planned to have seven episodes, or if it was originally intended to be the same length as The Mandalorian. If the episode count was reduced, it wouldn't be the first time that has happened for a Disney+ series. WandaVision had a ten-episode plan to start with, but the COVID-19 pandemic altered filming and it was eventually reduced to nine episodes. However, it is entirely possible that the series was always going to have a seven-episode run, as the Disney+ shows have so far proven fairly flexible when it comes to length.

The Book of Boba Fett will likely wrap up its season on February 9, 2022, suggesting a hint at what may come next on the Disney+ docket. Obi-Wan Kenobi is the next Star Wars series rumored to air, but the series is speculated to premiere on Star Wars Day, May 4, while Andor is currently expected to premiere in mid- to late 2022. The Bad Batch is renewed for season 2, but no announcement or trailer has been unveiled, so it is unclear when it will be ready to air. This means that a new Marvel series could premiere shortly after, as Disney tends to like to trade-off between their two biggest franchises. With Ms. Marvel currently expected to air in mid-2022, that could mean Moon Knight or She-Hulk is set to premiere soon.
