Temuera Morrison confirms that Robert Rodriguez has returned to the Star Wars universe to direct multiple episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. Rodriguez is the director of Sin City and Alita: Battle Angel as well as the widely beloved Spy Kids franchise. Rodriguez was a last-minute replacement director for his episode of The Mandalorian, but he still managed to deliver one of the best episodes of the series in “Chapter 14: The Tragedy.”

Rodriguez’s season 2 episode saw Morrison’s triumphant return to the Star Wars franchise in the role of the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett, now working with mercenary and assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). Fett demanded the return of his signature Mandalorian armor – and ended up forming an alliance with Din Djarin, helping him to save Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon. The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian ended with a post-credits teaser for The Book of Boba Fett, a spin-off that will explore some of the bounty hunter’s unseen past from the original trilogy. Starring Morrison and Wen, the series recently wrapped filming and is set to premiere in December 2021.

Now, Morrison has confirmed that Rodriquez has directed more than one episode of The Book of Boba Fett. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, the actor praised the “dynamic” way the director brought the Mandalorian bounty hunter back to the Star Wars universe. Morrison also stated that there were “wonderful directors” involved with The Book of Boba Fett alongside Rodriquez, who is also serving as a producer on the series. Read Morrison's full comment below:

"They brought Robert back in to direct a few more. There’s some wonderful directors involved. It’s hard work now, what we do now, a whole new system, with COVID in place, health and safety regulations."

Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian

Alongside films like Alita, Sin City, and From Dusk Till Dawn, Rodriguez is well-known for his ‘Mexico Trilogy’. The trilogy is a series of neo-Western action films starting with El Mariachi in 1992, continuing with Desperado in 1995, and concluding with Once Upon A Time in Mexico in 2003. With his involvement, fans can be reassured that The Book of Boba Fett is likely to share The Mandalorian’s neo-Western aesthetics and influences. The director allowed Morrison to show a new and exciting side of Fett in “The Tragedy”, including the Mandalorian’s skill in hand-to-hand combat, so hopefully, The Book of Boba Fett will feature just as many dynamic action scenes.

If Rodriguez didn’t win fans over already with his amazing episode of The Mandalorian, he certainly must have won them over with a sweet on-set video of the director enjoying a musical jam with Baby Yoda. Needless to say, Rodriguez’s involvement with The Book of Boba Fett – as a director and executive producer – is a cause for excitement for those who can’t wait to see more of the bounty hunter in action.
