The Book of Boba Fett trailer is notably missing Din Djarin, aka the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal), so where is he? Boba Fett's Star Wars return was first hinted at in The Mandalorian season 1 when a mysterious person in a cape found Fennec Shand (Ming Na-Wen) after Mando left her in the Tatooine wilderness. Many viewers had high hopes that the caped character was the bounty hunter formerly presumed to be eaten by a sarlacc in Return of the Jedi, and were proven correct when Temuera Morrison appeared as Boba Fett in season 2.

Fett played a significant role in the final three episodes of The Mandalorian season 2, and audiences were thrilled when a post-credits scene following the finale revealed the character would return in his own series. The Book of Boba Fett trailer indicates that much of the show will take place on Tatooine, following up on the post-credits sceneThe scene showed Fett and Shand taking out the remainder of Jabba the Hutt’s cronies and the trailer for Boba Fett’s solo outing implies that he will now try to bring some sort of reform to the ruling system of Tatooine.

But throughout The Book of Boba Fett trailer, there's no sign of Pascal’s Mandalorian. The lack of Mandalorian in The Book of Boba Fett isn't surprising since the new show will focus on Fett, specifically; the show's creators, who also helmed The Mandalorian, wouldn't want viewers distracted by a character from another series. There's always the possibility that Mando will appear in The Book of Boba Fett in a cameo or small role, especially since The Mandalorian season 3 won't return until presumably a year later. But in the meantime, audiences understandably may be wondering where the Mandalorian currently is during The Book of Boba Fett.

Din Djarin unmasked in The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian season 2 finale saw Mando giving Grogu permission to leave with Luke Skywalker to receive training in the Master's new Jedi Order. The episode ended immediately after this, leaving the future of the show very open and with little idea of what Mando may do next. However, prior to Grogu’s farewell, the Mandalorian had just defeated Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in combat, thus becoming the owner of the Darksaber and the also the rightful ruler of Mandalore. With this chain of events in mind, it seems possible that Mando may soon travel to the home planet of the Mandalorians to aid Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) in freeing it from Imperial oppression.

While this seems to be the direction in which The Mandalorian season 3 will head in, there are a couple of other possibilities. After all the trouble he went to in protecting Grogu, Mando may be taking some time to lay low before getting back into action. Perhaps he will take some easy bounty hunting jobs from Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) or help him establish Navarro some more. Whatever he's doing, it seems unlikely that he will be able to make his way out to help Boba Fett reorganize the ruling structure of Tatooine on the outskirts of the galaxy. A Mandalorian appearance is not completely ruled out, but viewers will have to wait for The Book of Boba Fett to release on Disney+ this December to find out.
