This article contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.

The Mandalorian season 2 finale surprised fans with a Luke Skywalker moment, and a theory says The Book of Boba Fett will repeat it with disappointing results. The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 took a significant detour from Temuera Morrison's bounty hunter and his mission to become the new crime lord on Tatooine. Instead, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) returned to the Star Wars universe in the episode, having his beskar spear turned into Grogu-sized Mandalorian chainmail. And though the Mandalorian agrees to help Boba Fett fight against the Pykes in the episode, he tells Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) that he has to make a necessary pit stop and deliver Grogu's armor first.

The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 continues Din Djarin's quest to get the armor to Grogu. In the episode, the Mandalorian takes his rebuilt N-1 starfighter to the planet where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) trains Grogu; however, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) intercepts the Mandalorian before he can deliver the armor to his foundling. Ahsoka Tano makes it clear that Mando's presence will distract Grogu from his training, so Din Djarin leaves the armor and takes off without talking to his little green companion. At the end of the episode, Luke Skywalker makes Grogu an offer. He can either accept Yoda's (Frank Oz) lightsaber or the Mandalorian's armor as a gift. But when he takes one, he forsakes the other.

Luke Skywalker's offer may hint at a repeat storyline on the way in The Book of Boba Fett finale. Given Grogu's history with the Mandalorian, the character is more likely to choose his strong attachment to Mando over the Jedi. Because this may involve Luke bringing Grogu back to Tatooine, it seems Mark Hamill's Jedi Master will show up in time to potentially save the day in Boba Fett's battle against the Pykes. Unfortunately, the storyline matches The Mandalorian season 2 finale, and it would likely have diminishing returns.

Grogu Is More Likely To Choose The Mandalorian Over The Jedi

The Book of Boba Fett Luke Skywalker Grogu

All signs point to Grogu choosing the Mandalorian instead of the ways of the Jedi. Grogu and Din Djarin have built an unbreakable bond over two seasons of The Mandalorian. Though Grogu ultimately goes with Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, he first wants Din Djarin's permission before leaving to train as a Jedi. And before the pair part, Din Djarin promises they'll see each other again. The Book of Boba Fett has even hinted at the pair teaming up once more, giving Din Djarin an N-1 starfighter with a perfectly Grogu-sized seat installed right behind the pilot. Luke Skywalker himself seemed to be pushing Grogu to choose the Mandalorian. When giving the little character the ultimatum, Skywalker emphasizes that Grogu may never see Mando again if he trains as a Jedi. After all, Jedi training could take years. "A short time for you is a lifetime for someone else," Skywalker says right before pressing Grogu for a decision.

Besides the hints in the show, there are outside clues to Grogu's decision. For instance, Luke Skywalker tells Grogu that he'd be the first student at his Jedi Academy. But Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic book, a four-part canon story, notes that Kylo Ren was Luke's first student. So as long as Star Wars doesn't retcon the story, Grogu will choose to stay with the Mandalorian. Additionally, future seasons of The Mandalorian wouldn't be the same if they were sans Grogu. The pair's friendship helped launch the show to enormous popularity. Star Wars and Disney don't want to give that up.

Theory: Luke Skywalker Appears In Boba Fett's Finale (& Saves The Day)

The Mandalorian Finale Luke Skywalker Holding Grogu

The Mandalorian season 2 finale surprised Star Wars fans everywhere. In the episode, the Mandalorian rescues Grogu from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and wins the Darksaber for himself. However, Dark Troopers threaten Mando and his friends, and the enemies are moments away from crashing through the door. Thankfully, a mysterious Jedi shows up at the last moment, slicing through the Dark Troopers with ease and removing his hood to reveal that he's Luke Skywalker. The de-aged version of Luke Skywalker had the internet buzzing and wondering about the possibilities after Grogu went off with the character to train. It was a critically praised moment for the series.

With Grogu likely going back to the Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett seems to set up a repeat moment. If Grogu decides to return to Din Djarin, Luke Skywalker will likely be the one flying Baby Yoda to Tatooine to rejoin his friend. And the timing is interesting. If that's the case, Luke and Grogu will likely show up in The Book of Boba Fett finale during the former bounty hunter's battle against the Pykes. Luke Skywalker is unquestionably a hero, so he'd likely be the reinforcement Boba Fett needs to win the war. After all, friends of Grogu are also friends of Luke. Like in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, it seems the Jedi will show up at the last moment to save the day once again.

Why Luke In Boba Fett's Finale Would Be Worse Than Mandalorian

Repeating the Luke Skywalker moment may be a mistake. Luke's return in The Mandalorian was special, serving as the perfect capstone on Din Djarin's quest to bring Grogu to the Jedi. However, doing the moment again would cheapen The Mandalorian season 2 finale. After all, repeatedly bringing Luke Skywalker in to save the day removes all the surprise. Additionally, Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett were enemies in 1983's Return of the Jedi before the bounty hunter fell into the Sarlacc pit. Though Boba Fett is a different and often helmet-less character in the series, Luke Skywalker saving Boba Fett could be a weird twist of fate rather than a triumphant one.

Of course, The Book of Boba Fett finale may have a completely different plan in place for Luke Skywalker, and there's no guarantee that Grogu will choose the Mandalorian over the Jedi. However, the signs all point to Luke and Grogu appearing again in The Book of Boba Fett season 1 finale. It will still be special if Luke Skywalker shows up in the finale to save the day as he did in The Mandalorian. It just won't be as special as the first time around.
