In August we learned the exciting news that the 24th James Bond film will feature a physically unique and intimidating villainous henchman for star Daniel Craig to battle onscreen. Comparisons were made to classic Bond characters Oddjob and Jaws and so the other week we began putting together a list of actors who fit the bill. As it turns out, one of those names may have already gotten the job.

The casting call description, as revealed by MI6 HQ, sought large, physically fit actors. Specifically, they wanted someone 30-45 years old, over 6'2" tall and someone "unusual" to play a character named Hinx. They were open to considering athletes as well and clearly the goal is to get someone who could be unique and memorable. The role would involve a driving sequence and several "altercations" with Bond himself.

As we begun putting together our list, our immediate top three included Joe Gatt (Thor, Star Trek Into Darkness), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Game of Thrones). All of them have notable, geek-friendly acting experience and are physical power houses.

So, it comes as no surprise to us when Latino-Review dropped the scoop this evening that former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has snagged the role, especially given the rec0rd-breaking success of Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters over the last two months. Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer in the spaced-based Marvel film and toys of his character can still be found in department stores. Guardians already has a sequel on the way, scheduled to hit theaters in July 2017, and helped launch a Guardians of the Galaxy animated TV series which airs next year. Needless to say, Bautista being cast would be a smart capitalization on the buzz and how recognizable he is (especially to younger movieogers who didn't follow his wrestling career).

Just days ago we learned that Léa Seydoux (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) also joined the cast of the 24th James Bond film which enters production this December for a late 2015 release. The film aims to complete the Skyfall story - the most successful Bond film to date.

Smart casting?

James Bond 24 will be in U.K. theaters on October 23, 2015, followed by a U.S. premiere on November 6, 2015.
