Whether one has binge-watched it or cringe-watched it, Netflix’s Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives is hard to ignore. One cast member from the show who is making the most noise is binocular-wielding Maheep Kapoor. So, who is Maheep, apart from mother to Bollywood’s hottest future debutante, Shanaya Kapoor?
Netflix’s latest reality offering follows the rip-roaring success of Indian Matchmaking. It features wonder women who aren’t really "aunty-ing" around like Sima Taparia. However, they do have their stars aligned when it comes to creating trending content. Introduced as someone who “always keeps it colorful,” Maheep is the unofficial leading lady of the show, who first educates the viewers with the classy concept of “Le Ball.” Oh, and when she’s not eating expensive escargots like Emily In Paris, or spilling the tea over seafood dates with bestie Karan Johar, Maheep is busy being the cool mom to her two kiddos. Of course, there’s more to this popular Bollywood Wives star than just snooping around the neighborhood cracking jokes about Mumbai’s suburbs, Chembur and Bandra. It's been quite a journey for Maheep Kapoor, from being Sanjay Kapoor’s wife to being a Netflix star.
Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives talks about Maheep loving “her wine and her family and there are lots of them to love.” Before diving into the diva’s long-branched family tree, fans should know where Maheep’s accent comes from. Maheep Sandhu was an NRI of Punjabi origin who lived in Perth, Australia. She came to India to try her luck in Bollywood. The Netflix celeb studied fashion and jewelry design back home, before getting bitten by the acting bug. This led to a role in the movie, Shivam. As mentioned by Shah Rukh Khan on Bollywood Wives, Maheep started in Shivam, which later, unfortunately, got shelved. She had appeared opposite Panini Raajkumar, who is the son of the late actor, Raaj Kumar. While Maheep’s “leading lady aspirations” (as she calls them in a throwback Maheep Kapoor Instagram post) may not have worked out, she did feature in a naughty 90s music video which is now going viral. Ila Arun's pop video "Nigodi Kaisi Jawani Hai" released in 1994, while Maheep was making the gossip columns for dating Sanjay, who’d then famously gifted her a car. Maheep's age on the Internet is apparently 37, but on the Netflix show, Bhavana Pandey comments that she must've been 21 during the video's release, which would allegedly make Maheep's current age 47.
In 1997, Maheep got married to the Raja fame actor Sanjay Kapoor, as per MidDay, and soon had children, Shanaya and Jahaan. The power couple also co-own the production company, Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Private Limited. Marrying into the star-studded family made the FLOBW celeb the sister-in-law to Sanjay’s brothers. One brother is the star of the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire (Anil Kapoor); the other is producer Bonny Kapoor. Maheep is also the aunt to Bollywood actors Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Arjun Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Harshvardhan Kapoor, as well as the aunt of movie producer and fashion designer, Rhea Kapoor.
When she’s not busy brunching with the Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives stars or taking spontaneous trips to Doha, Maheep manages her own jewelry store, Satyani Fine Jewels, in Mumbai’s Bandra locality. Owing to Maheep’s charming ways, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the cool mom stars in her own desi "Keeping Up With The Kapoors" spin-off soon.
