BoJack Horseman is one of those shows that get better with every re-watch. Instances of foreshadowing and witty visual gags are scattered all over the place, and each fan has their own personal favorites picked out. Some like the ingenious posters in the background, while others appreciate animal-related jokes, such as the moth at BoJack's annual Halloween parties.
Then, there are scenes that have been burned into every single fan's memory, either because they are ridiculously funny or just way too real. They live in fans' heads rent-free, and they have no intention of moving out - ever.
"What Are YOU Doing Here?"
At the beginning of season 2, BoJack was ready to turn over a new leaf. Everything was going great for him; he started jogging, he listened to motivational tapes, and he landed his dream role. He was going to star in a movie about his childhood role model, Secretariat.
When the time to film one of the scenes came, BoJack simply couldn't deliver the line "What are you doing here?" in a somber tone. They shot the scene over and over again, but BoJack couldn't shake off his new-found enthusiasm - until his mother called him and broke his spirit.
Princess Carolyn's Motivational Speech
Princess Carolyn had her fair share of relatable scenes, but the one that takes the cake is the famous motivational speech she gave herself in the mirror.
"You gotta get your sh*t together. So yesterday, you let yourself fall in love a little bit and you got your heart broken. Serves you right for having feelings! Starting now you are a hard, heartless career gal! Go to work, be awesome at it, and don’t waste time on foolish flights of fancy. From now on, you are a robot," she said to her reflection. There's no doubt that countless of the show's fans often think of this unforgettable scene when they need a little pick-me-up themselves.
Todd Tells BoJack He Needs To Be Better
Todd is the most innocent and naive character on BoJack Horseman. His story is filled with hilarious misadventures, so he comes across as unreliable and irresponsible. Todd is not to be underestimated, though. Just because he is kind and agreeable, doesn't mean he doesn't see injustice and toxic behavior.
The scene in which he tells BoJack that he needs to be better is considered one of his best quotes. "You can't keep doing sh*tty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay," he told BoJack moments before he moved out of his house for good.
Mr. Peanutbutter Gets His Crossover Episode
Mr. Peanutbutter's first line in BoJack Horseman was him asking BoJack: "What is this, a crossover episode?", a line that would become one of his most iconic quotes.
It took BoJack six seasons, but in the end, he finally gave in and fulfilled Mr. PB's wish. Mr. Peanutbutter was so happy that he couldn't even perform. Instead, he broke down in tears.
Fuzzyface Looks For Becca
Meow Meow Fuzzyface is without a doubt one of the most hilarious side characters on BoJack Horseman. He was first introduced in season 2 when he was looking for a certain chicken on the loose that Todd was hiding. When she entered the scene, Fuzzyface wanted to know who she was. "My wife, Becca!", Todd said, trying to translate the random sounds the chicken made into coherent words.
Since Todd said she was a nerd, Fuzzyface needed to know who her favorite composer was. "Bach? Not Vivaldi!? You're insane!", he said, before taking his leave.
Mr. Peanutbutter Confronts BoJack In "Let's Find Out"
Just like Todd, Mr. Peanutbutter is much more self-aware as he seems. Because he is always so cheerful and optimistic, BoJack thinks that he's also a bit dumb. In "Let's Find Out", Mr. PB finally got real and dropped his happy-go-lucky act. As a consequence, fans got "some real television", as J. D. Salinger put it.
He told BoJack he was sick of him treating him like a joke. "What else could the universe possibly owe you?", he lamented. "I want to feel good about myself, the way you do. And I don't know how," BoJack replied. It was one of the very few times BoJack opened up to Mr. PB.
Cuddlywhiskers Talks About Happiness
Cuddlywhiskers was a successful producer who decided to leave the superficial world of Hollywood behind and learn to be happy. In "BoJack Kills", Diane and BoJack tracked him down. It turned out Cuddlywhiskers adopted a Buddhist-like lifestyle. The scene that lives rent-free in everybody's head is the scene in which he is drinking tea with his guests.
"It takes a long time to realize how truly miserable you are, and even longer to see that it doesn't have to be that way. Only after you give up everything can you begin to find a way to be happy," he told them. They left the visit, obviously shaken by his words. The fanbase, too, remembers Cuddlywhiskers' sage advice.
Beatrice Throws Up On Corbin Creamerman
Beatrice Horseman is by far the least likable character in BoJack Horseman, but it's hard to hate her once her origin story is revealed. She was supposed to marry Corbin Creamerman.
When they went on a date, they realized they have more in common than they first thought. Unfortunately, it was too late for Beatrice. It turned out that she was pregnant with BoJack, so the two never ended up together.
BoJack's Trip In "Downer Ending"
The appeal of BoJack Horseman doesn't just lie in tackling controversial topics, the beauty of it also lies in its running gags and creative animation. In "Downer Ending", BoJack takes drugs with Sarah Lynn and Todd. What follows is one of the most memorable sequences, animation-wise.
As 'No Love' by Death Grips started playing, BoJack's trip got increasingly darker. He saw Diane turn into a Rick-and Morty-esque monster and revisited some of the most painful moments of his life.
Sarah Lynn's Death
The scene which undoubtedly lives in every fan's head rent-free is the planetarium scene in which Sarah Lynn dies. It's considered one of the most heart-wrenching moments of the show. Right before she died, she was admiring the dome and told BoJack that she wanted to be an architect.
BoJack went on a little rant about how little their lives matter in the grand scheme of things. When she didn't respond, he asked: "Sarah Lynn?" What makes this scene even more iconic is that much of the final season revolved around it. It turned out that BoJack didn't call the ambulance right away, but waited for 17 long minutes. Perhaps, Sarah Lynn could have survived.
