Body Parts is a fascinating and gripping documentary that is sure to recontextualize the way in which audiences view on-screen displays of intimacy. Directed by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan, Body Parts traces the evolution of the practices behind filming sex and sexual situations over the course of decades in Hollywood. The film features candid interviews with female creators and actors including Rose McGowan, Jane Fonda, Rosanna Arquette, among others, and it shines a light on the uncomfortable process behind a number of iconic movie sex scenes in addition to advocating for real change behind-the-scenes. Body Parts premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, and showed at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2023.

The emotional impact of Body Parts is further bolstered by the engaging musical score written by Emmy-winning composer Nainita Desai. Desai, who has scored a number of documentaries and video games (including the award-winning Immortality), wove a tapestry of vocal textures for her work on Body Parts, often jumping between sounds that are playful, dissonant, and robotic in the same piece. The main title piece, "Body Parts - Titles" is a perfect primer for Desai's work on the film, and Screen Rant is thrilled to exclusively premiere the track in advance of the official album release.

Nainita Desai's work on Body Parts perfectly encapsulates the rollercoaster of emotions that have clearly accompanied the filming process of so many intimate film moments. She rounds out her vocal work with drums and strings, written to create sensations of claustrophobia and unease. Desai's bold musical swings perfectly complement the stories on screen as well as the push for change that has inspired so many of those involved in this at-times disturbing documentary itself.

Here's what Nainita Desai had to say about the process behind her work on Body Parts:

The vocals embrace the spectrum of emotions, jagged and angular, sometimes innocent, seductive, and lush and at other times confident, bold and playful, representing the voice of dissent and united front of women coming together and taking control as a singular voice in the film. The vocals sound slightly robotic where the women are perceived as being subservient without any say or control over their situation and how they are presented. I’m not using the vocals in a normal song like way but more like an instrument with a very human quality.”
