Body doubles, by their very definition, are meant to come as close to a lead actor’s physique as possible. Sometimes, they’re just acting as stand-ins in order to get lighting and cameras adjusted before the actors come on set, but in this case, most doubles we speak of are stunt doubles. These fearless men and women have trained hard in various forms of athletics like free running, gymnastics and martial arts. Their bodies have to be in tip top physical condition to avoid injury and keep getting work. But in an industry where your face matters less than your body or what it can do, there are quite a few hot body doubles.
Many of these stuntmen and women could easily pass for celebrities, as some resemble a particular celebrity so much that they consistently double for them on movie after movie. But, there are a few special cases where the body double is (arguably) even better looking than their celebrity. Meet the fifteen such body doubles who have that unique distinction.
15. Rosie Mac – Emilia Clark
Rosie Mac took the internet by storm in 2015 when she was revealed as Emilia Clarke’s body double in Game of Thrones. The now twenty year old Mac stunned the world (and even Game of Thrones‘ producers) with how much she resembled the Mother of Dragons. While Mac had intended on going to the casting call for Season 5 of the show, she wasn’t able to actually make it. Instead, she uploaded a photo of herself to Instagram, sporting a Khaleesi-worthy hairstyle, which somehow found its way to HBO. The rest, as they say, is history.
So far, Mac has only doubled Clarke for one season, which may be due to her own status as a rising star. A triple threat performer, Mac has modeled for Sports Illustrated, competed in worldwide dance competitions, and even auditioned for the British version of X-Factor in 2016. As of this year, she’s deleted all her sexy photos off Instagram and seems to be trying to focus all her efforts on a musical career instead.
14. Adam Brashaw – Jeremy Renner
While Adam Brashaw was doing martial arts at an early age, he was inspired to get into stunts after watching the special features on the DVD of Romeo Must Die, where a stuntman demonstrated a front flip stunt fall. He got his first stunt performer credit in the last two Harry Potter movies, where he appeared as a Snatcher and took home a SAG award with his fellow stuntmen and women for it. Since then, he’s done work for The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Jason Bourne, and he was Jeremy Renner’s stunt double in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Although he’s not an archer like Hawkeye, he is an avid freerunner, which also made him the perfect body double for Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch character in Assassin’s Creed. Along with five other friends, Brashaw started a free running group called 3RUN (who hold two Guinness World Records), and recently wrote, directed, and starred in a short action film featuring his crew’s skills.
13. Samantha Jo – Ming Na Wen
An Olympic athlete in Wushu (who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics), Samatha Jo’s martial arts training has made her into a highly sought after stunt performer. She was Kristen Stewart’s double in the last Twilight film, Eva Green’s double in 300: Rise of an Empire, and played Ming Na Wen’s ass-kicking stunt double in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, her good looks have also allowed her to go back and forth between stunts and acting.
Much like Ming Na Wen, who appeared in the 1994 Street Fighter film as Chun-Li, Jo also took an early acting role in a small screen adaptation of the video game Mortal Kombat as Kitana. It’s very likely we’ll be seeing a lot more of her beautiful face in supporting roles, since she scored a part as the Amazonian warrior Euboea in Wonder Woman. Jo will also reprise her role in Justice League this fall, as Euboea was a close friend to Diana in the comics.
12. William Spencer – Andrew Garfield
Well known in both the freerunning and skateboarding communities, William Spencer has combined his talents and made himself stand out as a unique type of stunt performer. He did a trick off a roof for The Kids Are Alright, he slipped on a skateboard in Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, but he’s best known for doubling Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-man films. Although Garfield’s certainly a handsome guy, Spencer’s skater boy style and defined jawline put him on a whole other level of hotness.
Nicknamed the Skate Ninja for his use of acrobatics—often propelling himself off walls and doing flips—his proficiency in skateboarding also earned him a dual role as a skate consultant and performer in the upcoming Skate God film alongside famous professional boarders like Tony Hawk and David Gonzalez. One look at Spencer’s Instagram and there’s no question why he’s become the go-to guy for skate stunts. He consistently invents his own moves, experimenting with double boards and telling stories with his funky tricks.
11. Justin Howell – Joel Kinnaman
Joel Kinnaman’s a hunky dude, but he can’t compete with the set of muscles on stuntman Justin Howell. While Howell’s only been doing stunts professionally for three years, he has already racked up twenty-one credits to his name, including doubling for Kinnaman in Suicide Squad. For the most part, Howell’s mainly been doing stunts for TV, also doubling for Dolph Lundren in Arrow and acting as a “stunt Klingon” for the new Star Trek: Discovery show on CBS this fall. Following his turn in Suicide Squad, Howell’s beginning to score some even higher profile stunt roles, appearing in Avengers: Infinity War as a stunt performer next year.
Only twenty-nine years old, it’s likely that his multi-talented athleticism has made him stand out from the crowd. Howell has trained in tae kwon do since age five and is a third dan black belt. But not only can he karate chop like a beast, he’s also been playing a knight at Medieval Times in Toronto and has competed in the International Cheerleading Championship with Team Canada. Talk about a jack of all trades.
10. Ingrid Kleinig – Brie Larson
Precision driver, stunt cyclist, aerialist, stunt double—these are just a few of the jobs Ingrid Kleinig has taken on in the entertainment industry. Kleining comes from a line of professional drivers (her brother used to take her over jumps on a motorcross track as a baby) so she already had a head start on her career at an early age. Extreme sports, martial arts, dance and acrobatics are all part of her repertoire. In fact, her time performing with the Australian physical theatre company, Legs on the Wall, (for the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Sydney) is what finally pushed her into a full-time career as a stunt performer.
Since 2004, Kleinig has been appearing in commercials, TV shows, and feature films. She’s done work on some of the biggest films out of Australia and New Zealand in the past five years, like The Hobbit films and Mad Max: Fury Road. Most recently, she was Margot Robbie’s stunt double for both Tarzan and Suicide Squad over here in the States. However, let’s be honest here. It’s pretty hard for anyone to top Margot Robbie’s hotness, but Kleinig was also Brie Larson’s double for Kong: Skull Island, which puts her in a slightly more favorable position in terms of looks (no offense, Brie).
9. Anthony Molinari – Mark Ruffalo
Anthony Molinari quit his job as a special ed teacher in Boston to pursue his big dream of becoming a Hollywood stuntman. Now he’s been running his own stunt company, All Action Stunts, for the past fifteen years doubling for actors like Mark Wahlberg, George Clooney, and Mark Ruffalo.
Molinari’s likeness to Ruffalo is especially noteworthy, but honestly, he’s the better looking twin, which might have something to do with their seven year age gap. He’s doubled Ruffalo in five different films, often posing next to him for photos since you almost can’t tell them apart (making him a very efficient stunt double).
Molinari specializes in fight stunts, particularly boxing, which makes him highly sought after for hand to hand scenes both as a performer and stunt coordinator. However, because he’s not too bad on the eyes, he also sometimes gets a featured extra role in a few of the movies and TV shows he does stunts for. Who knows, maybe he’ll even start taking Ruffalo’s potential roles soon.
8. Alicia Vela-Bailey – Shailene Woodley
Probably the most sought after female stunt double in Hollywood right now, Alicia Vela-Bailey has reached A-list status in the stunt community. She recently doubled for Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, but has also done so for Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, and Shailene Woodley, just to name a few. You may remember her as the person who executed that 66 ft. high fall in Divergent, when Tris (Woodley) jumps off a building to prove herself to Dauntless.
Bailey was trained as a gymnast and dancer, but upon receiving her first stunt gig as Mila Jovovich’s double in Ultra Violet, she began martial arts training as well. Ten years later, she’s also made the transition into acting, appearing in a few horror films, which led to her role as the creepy dark entity Diana in Lights Out. After stunt doubling for Adrienne Palicki on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (where her husband, Matt Mullins, is stunt coordinator), Bailey even received her own role as the Inhuman Alisha Whitley in seasons two and three.
7. Chris Brewster – Charlie Cox
Speaking of Alicia Vela-Bailey, one of her husband’s best friends also does stunts on a lot of Marvel shows. Matt Mullins and Chris Brewster used to be part of a performing martial arts stunt team called Sideswipe, who made it to the semi-finals of America’s Got Talent in 2007. Since his big break into the entertainment industry, Brewster has done stunts for TV, music videos, films, and even motion capture for video games. He’s perhaps best known for doubling Charlie Cox on Daredevil and in the upcoming Defenders show as well.
You know that insane hallway fight scene from season one? Brewster was a major part of making that into a perfect single shot scene. With only three days to prep, they pulled it off after the twelfth take. In fact, Charlie Cox himself has mentioned how impressive Brewster is as a stuntman, even mimicking the way Daredevil/Matt Murdock stands and moves to make the action believable. They seem to have a bit of a bromance going on, because Brewster complimented him right back in an interview with Variety.
6. Joanne Lamstein – Kate Mulgrew
Joanne Lamstein got her start on Nickelodeon’s Guts show as a stunt performer twenty-five years ago. Nowadays, she does stunts and body doubles for lead actresses in film and TV shows like The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, and Orange is the New Black. On the latter series, she actually doubles for both Blair Brown and Kate Mulgrew in the two most recent seasons, when things have really started to heat up at Litchfield.
Despite standing in for women in their 60s and 70s on OITNB, Lamstein is only in her late 40s, but still gets to do fight scenes, set herself on fire, and do stunt falls from heights over thirty feet. Her small frame is made for gymnastics, but she also specializes in weapon work and stunt driving, making her somewhat of a specialist for crime shows and films. Lamstein was a part of the Bourne Ultimatum stunt crew who took home a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
5. Dan Mast – Mark Wahlberg
Since the age of 21, Dan Mast has been doing stunts professionally for TV, film, and even Universal Studios’ stunt show Water World at their Hollywood theme park. Mast is also part of an internationally recognized freerunning team called Tempest, based in Los Angeles. Much of his stunt talent stems from his involvement in the sport, even acting as an assistant stunt coordinator for MTV’s Ultimate Parkour Challenge. His biggest stunt role to date, however, has been as Mark Wahlberg’s stunt double for the last two Transformers movies.
Any time you see Cade Yeager take a death defying leap off a building, it’s Mast who’s actually jumping, not Wahlberg. In an interview with Business Insider, Mast pointed out “We’re not pretending to run away from things. We’re not faking reactions…” referring to Michael Bay’s penchant for real-life pyrotechnics.
Photos of Wahlberg and Mast on set show just how strong a resemblance they have to each other, although we’d say Mast is considerably more attractive than Wahlberg at this point, who’s nearly twice his age. They were even seen comparing their “guns” as Mast is known as “The Shooter” on his freerunning team – for his big biceps.
4. Mickey Facchinello – Robin Wright
At twenty-six years old, Mickey Facchinello is one of the youngest (and hottest) body doubles on this list. A second degree black belt, Facchinello is a national and international karate champion who trained under American Karate Association president, John Sharkey Jr. Her connection to Sharkey also got her a spot on Sideswipe as their only female member, performing with Chris Brewster and Matt Mullins in Las Vegas. Like them, she eventually transitioned to Hollywood as a stunt performer, only getting her start four years ago with stunt roles in The Purge, The Wolverine, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
To prove that the stunt world truly is a small one, she also appeared in Wonder Woman along with Samantha Jo and Alicia Vela-Bailey, where she played Robin Wright’s stunt double. Although Wright did some of her own stunts, they were seamlessly blended with Facchinello’s unmatched fighting skills to make Wright’s portrayal of Antiope even more badass.
3. Jacob Tomuri – Tom Hardy
New Zealand based Jacob Tomuri got his start in stunts during the Lord of the Rings franchise. He also began appearing on the popular New Zealand TV show, The Tribe, as the reoccurring Lt. Luke. Tomuri goes back and forth between acting and stunts, one of the few stunt performers who can easily do so because of his movie star good looks.
In fact, when Mad Max: Fury Road began filming in Australia, Tomuri got cast as Tom Hardy’s stunt double. They could easily be mistaken for twins, although when they’re actually standing next to each other, Tomuri has a much leaner face and body than Hardy. Regardless, their resemblance was so impressive that he was also his double for both Legend and The Revenant as well. Hardy even brought Tomuri on the Mad Max press tour since he had so many stunt scenes in the film (which earned him a SAG award with the rest of the stunt crew).
Although still in its early stages, Mad Max: Wasteland will also reportedly star Hardy, reprising his role as Max Rockastansky, so Tomuri might be pulled along for the ride again once the film starts shooting sometime in the next few years.
2. Eddie Davenport – Hugh Jackman
Eddie Davenport didn’t always have the body of a movie star, but after a Hollywood agent told him he didn’t have action star potential, he took started training even harder. The results paid off when he got the opportunity to play Hugh Jackman’s stunt double in Real Steel. Davenport’s resemblance to the Aussie superstar helped him get some utility stunt work on X-Men: First Class, but it was the experience doubling for Jackman in Logan that really got him the recognition he’d been looking for.
Davenport started out doing stints at the Pirate’s Dinner Show in Orlando, FL, and now was utilizing his skills in one of the biggest movies of the year. But he didn’t just get to double Jackman this time – he actually played the part of the X-24 clone in the film. It’s Davenport’s body you see on screen, although his face was replaced with Jackman’s using CGI. Perhaps now he’ll have more opportunities to finally become an action hero in his own right. He certainly looks the part these days.
1. Renae Moneymaker – Jennifer Lawrence
A professional gymnast who trained for nineteen years, Renae Moneymaker ended up following her sister’s footsteps into the stunt world. Her sister, Heidi, doubles for Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in all the Marvel films and does the majority of her work with the stunt team 87 Eleven. Heidi got her sister a stunt double role on the gymnastics TV show, Make it or Break It, while Renae was still in college, which couldn’t have been a more perfect segueway from one industry to the other.
From then on, Moneymaker has wasted no time playing catch up to her sister, securing herself as the double of another famous Hollywood starlet: Jennifer Lawrence. Moneymaker has been with Lawrence for seven films and counting, including the Hunger Games and X-Men films. She’ll also play Lawrence’s double for two more upcoming films—Red Sparrow and Mother!, which both come out within the next year.
