The most sane citizen of Wonder Wharf, Bob Belcher is a humble man from humble beginnings. A food artisan with a failing restaurant, Bob is more than just a burger man with a thick, full mustache. He is an arcade game-enthusiast, a CAKE-lover, and a loving father and husband.

Although his children love him, they are prone to insulting him for fun. Too preoccupied with loving his children to ever stifle their creativity, the loving, huggable bear takes it in stride. Audiences have grown to love the Bob-Belcher kid's relationship dynamic, tuning in to discover what new ways his children can make fun of him. They're his family, and he loves them, but they're terrible. They're all terrible!

Bob Has Back Hair

Bob is a hairy man, a fact noticed by countless characters on the show. Mr. Fischoeder would ask him why he is so swarthy, believing Bob to be an immigrant. His best friend, Teddy, would also assume Bob to be Mediterranean. When Bob buys a food truck after the annoying documentarian Randy advises him to, the children make up code names for communication purposes. They name Bob: 'Back Hair'.

"Why do you armpits smell like feet?" Louise asks Bob. Bob answers that his feet smell like chili and his armpits like feet because he doesn't wash.

Bob Walks Funny

In another episode where Bob makes a big sacrifice for his kids, Bob must infiltrate the Equestranauts to retrieve Tina's stolen rare equestranaut, Chariot Doll. Bob dresses up in a full-body equestranaut costume, while his family watches from afar to coach him.

After Bob finds the power-crazed leader of the group, Bronconious, he is anxious and desperate to fit in. His family calls him to berate him, with Gene adding "you walk funny!" Although Bob is quick to tell Gene that his advice is not helping, Gene is adamant, returning that, "I'm just saying! Work on that!"

Bob Is Disgusting

Gene is fond of making fun of his father. The Belcher family all admit that he is the funniest one, coming up with quick, witty wisecracks about himself, Tina, or Bob. An extrovert, Gene also loves to be part of things. When the local town hottie, and Bob's frenemy, Jairo, causes Bob to slip and tear his labrum, tanned and perfect Jairo comes to the rescue with his sexy Brazilian dance healing.

Gene, wanting to be part of the first moments of bonding between Bob and Jairo, joins their bromantic hug. "Let me in on that! I want some of that! Heal our dad! Heal his disgusting, broken body!" he charges Jairo.

"A Push Broom On My Lips"

"Noooooo!" Gene screams when he learns that he will grow up to look like Bob. "You could do worse," Bob rebuffs. "I don't see how! What's the point of clinging to this, if I'm doomed to be that? Why wait? Let's do it now! I want the whole Bob. Male-patterned baldness. Stooped shoulders. Paunch. And a push broom on my lips."

"This is incredibly insulting," Bob replies, but Gene blames Bob for letting himself go and depressing his son with the reality of his future appearance. The kids make fun of Bob's hairy, swarthy genes once again, making it one of the most used—and most hilarious—jokes in the series.

Bob Is Fat

Bob's Burgers' first episode highlights Bob's fatness as a defining feature of the character. When Bob is forced to close his restaurant, because of rumors (started by Louise) that he sells human flesh to customers, he is defeated. He looks at his reflection and vocalizes his negative thoughts about himself, including being a failure and being fat.

Despite being a family comedy, the series deals humanely with Bob's feelings of failure and inferiority, caused by his abusive father. Yet, Bob is triumphant because he breaks this cycle with his children, allowing them to freely express themselves, even when it means they make fun of him. Hence, when he shows up in a suit to defend a parking ticket, Louise comments, " Wow! Don Draper is kind of fat this season."

Bob Is A Failure

In another joke about Bob being a financial failure, Bob has to go to the hospital after cutting himself in the finger crotch. The children, naturally, ignore their parents' orders not to open the restaurant while they are away. Gene opens McChickies, while Tina opens the healthiest restaurant in town, serving kale and replacing the chairs with treadmills. Surprisingly, both restaurants spectacularly fail.

"Why did we ever think a restaurant was a good idea? We've watched mum and dad fail at it for years," Louise says. "They make failing look so easy. How do they do it?" Gene exclaims in response!

Bob's Pimple

Bob's Pimple is introduced on the night of Linda's high school reunion. Bob is ashamed to leave the bathroom with the big, pulsing, red pimple right on the tip of his nose. When he appears before the family, they all scream loudly, and Louise runs around the room in terror. The pimple has two heads and makes Tina incredibly nauseous.

"It's staring right at me! Look, when I walk to the side of the room, it follows me." Louise exaggerates. "It's not fun. It's humiliating! I just want that thing out of my house."

Bob Is A Fool

To get out of being grounded, the Belcher children are willing to go see Yarnival with Aunt Gayle: a show like Cirque Du Soleil, but with cats. Gayle has just one extra ticket, so the children write stories to impress her and to escape being grounded. In Louise's story, she unwittingly infringes on the Game Of Thrones copyright in multiple ways.

In her story, Bob is Bobdor, an obvious parody of Hodor. Bobdor is a fool who is also fat and incredibly unsexy. Indeed, in Gene's story, Bob is also represented as an old drunk in a bar whom Linda is forced to marry as punishment for being mean.

Bob Needs Media Coaching

While practicing for her interview for Wagstaff School New head newscaster, Tina interviews Bob during breakfast. She irritates Bob immediately after asking, "do you see [your restaurant] as a stepping stone to a real restaurant?" The intensity of the interview gets to Bob, and he boasts that he can cook other things apart from burgers. Like paella. When Tina asks how to cook paella, he says he has to look up the recipe. Consequently, Tina accuses him of lying about being a paella expert.

"Dad needs media coaching," Gene taunts. Bob, angry, declares the interview over. "Get that camera out of my face!" he sneers.

Bob Is Boring

Bob is not a man of excitement; he is bald, fat, makes fries for a living, and wears clogs. In a classic episode of Bob's Burgers, Bob takes Linda out for a night of excitement. According to Linda, they painted the town beige. She complains that Bob takes her to the same restaurant over and over to plop down and eat the same soup and breadsticks. Bob, however, does not want change, neither excitement.

"Look, we work hard, so on the rare occasion we take a little a break, it's nice to know what we're getting," Bob retorts. "Woah! Dad. Turn the romance down a notch, huh?" Louise quips.
