More progressive than The Simpsons, smarter than Family Guy, and hailed as the spiritual successor to King of the Hill, Bob’s Burgers is one of the greatest animated shows on the air right now. The writing is grounded and relatable, the animation’s muted primary colors are pleasing to the eye, and the catchy musical numbers come thick and fast.

Plus, the voice actors’ freedom to improvise is used to create spontaneous, naturalistic moments, which has given Bob’s Burgers an identity of its own. There’s something to enjoy in almost every episode of the show, but some stand out from the crowd as true classics. Here are 10 episodes of Bob’s Burgers that’ll never get old.

Sheesh! Cab, Bob? (Season 1, Episode 6)

“Crawl Space” is a timeless gem, but the episode that pioneered Bob’s Burgers’ unique blend of absurdity and sincerity was its sixth, “Sheesh! Cab, Bob?.” Aside from having one of the show’s greatest pun titles, it first showed viewers the lengths that Bob would go to in order to make his kids happy. As Tina’s 13th birthday party looms, she tries to orchestrate her first kiss by inviting Jimmy Jr..

Bob takes a second job moonlighting as a taxi driver to pay for Tina’s party, paving the way for a lot of great early character moments. The stakes are raised when Jimmy Pesto refuses to let Jimmy Jr. go to Tina’s party unless Bob shaves his mustache. All in all, "Sheesh! Cab, Bob?" set the template for every great Bob’s Burgers episode that followed.

The Equestranauts (Season 4, Episode 17)

Tina attends a convention honoring her favorite toy franchise and finds that the fanbase is made up of middle-aged men. She’s quickly conned out of her favorite action figure, and recruits Bob to infiltrate the Equestranauts fan community to get it back.

There’s a hilarious irony in the fact that Tina’s emotional growth throughout the episode ultimately makes Bob’s Memento-like study of Equestranauts fiction a total waste of time.

Boyz 4 Now (Season 3, Episode 21)

Louise at a Boys 4 Now concert on Bob's Burgers

Louise is initially apprehensive when she’s forced to go to a Boyz 4 Now concert with Tina, but she quickly falls in love with Boo Boo, one of the boy band’s members, when they start playing the show.

As she deals with the confusing emotion of liking a boy, Louise sneaks onto the band’s tour bus to get close to Boo Boo. The B-plot involving Gene’s table-setting contest is delightfully absurd, too.

Bob Day Afternoon (Season 2, Episode 2)

Mickey and Bob in Bob's Burgers episode Bob Day Afternoon

In season 2’s “Bob Day Afternoon,” Bob goes across the street to the bank to talk about the family’s unfortunate financial situation and finds himself caught in the middle of a bank heist.

Bill Hader’s guest performance as Mickey the bank robber is as hilarious as one would expect. He builds a terrific on-camera (or in-booth) rapport with H. Jon Benjamin.

Eat, Spray, Linda (Season 5, Episode 18)

When Bob and the kids are unprepared for Linda’s birthday in season 5’s “Eat, Spray, Linda,” they send her to the grocery store to buy themselves some time. Then, she gets locked out of her car and goes on a nightmarish adventure across town.

Meanwhile, Bob and the kids go searching for her and peel back new layers of her personality everywhere they look.

Bad Tina (Season 2, Episode 8)

Tammy and Tina drink alcohol from Bob's Burgers

Tammy went on to become a regular recurring character after her debut in season 2’s “Bad Tina,” in which she first arrives at the school and peer-pressures Tina into breaking rules.

Jenny Slate’s hilariously irritating portrayal of Tammy got off to a great start in “Bad Tina,” while keeping the focus on Tina and her difficult decisions gave the story an emotional engagement.

Bob & Deliver (Season 4, Episode 7)

Bob becomes a substitute home-ec teacher at the kids’ school in season 4’s “Bob & Deliver” and clashes with the cafeteria staff when he lets his students open up their own lunchtime restaurant.

Meanwhile, Tina feels neglected as Bob gives attention to all the students in his class and she feels overshadowed by naturally gifted chefs like Zeke.

Mother Daughter Laser Razor (Season 3, Episode 10)

It’s not often that we get to see a Louise and Linda team-up, and that’s precisely the point of the season 3 episode “Mother Daughter Laser Razor.” Linda drags Louise to an eight-hour mother-daughter seminar in an attempt to gain a closer bond with her.

Meanwhile, Tina wants to get her legs waxed after overhearing some popular girls making fun of a girl with lots of leg hair, and when Bob takes her to get the waxing done, he has to have his own legs waxed in order to put her at ease.

Housetrap (Season 5, Episode 19)

Bob's Burgers - Housetrap

When the Belchers head up to the vacation home of a mysterious widow to do a favor for her handyman Teddy, Linda becomes convinced that the owner of the house murdered her husband.

There’s a real tension in the episode’s mystery plot, which has a hilarious anticlimactic payoff when Teddy falls off the roof of the house in a rare example of a slapstick gag that lands perfectly (unlike Teddy).

Uncle Teddy (Season 4, Episode 14)

Season 4’s “Uncle Teddy” uses all the show’s characters, including Teddy, to their full potential. Bob and Linda butt heads with the other attendees at a burger convention, while Teddy babysits the kids and accidentally loses Tina when she sneaks off with a sandwich delivery boy.

From Bob and Linda dumping condiments in a hot tub to Teddy throwing Tina’s crush’s moped in the ocean, the narrative progression in “Uncle Teddy” builds to some unforgettably hysterical moments.
