Warning: the following contains SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett follows Star Wars' most notorious bounty hunter as he steps into the role of the daimyo or crime lord of Tatooine's largest city and spaceport, Mos Espa – but it's unlcear exactly how Boba (Temuera Morrison) beat the Hutts to a position that was previously held by one of their most feared and respected family members. Prior to Boba, his former employer Jabba the Hutt was Mos Espa's daimyo. And it stands to reason that the pair of Hutts known only as The Twins arguably have first claim over Jabba's throne. Moreover, considering how Boba Fett was busy escaping from the sarlacc and going on a spiritual journey with the Tusken tribe that took him in, it's a little strange that Boba managed to snag the title first before The Twins.

The Twins first appear in The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 2, "Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine." After fending off an assassination attempt that seems to have been ordered by the Mayor of Mos Espa Mok Shaiz (Robert Rodriguez), Boba and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) are confronted in the streets by The Twins, who claim that they have unresolved business with the new daimyo. Accompanied by wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan (Carey Jones), The Twins try and fail to intimidate Boba for Jabba's throne.

The Book of Boba Fett doesn't go into detail regarding why it took so long for The Twins to return to Tatooine in the first place. The explanation for this can be found in the War of the Bounty Hunters, a canon Star Wars comic event in which Darth Vader kills off most of the leaders of the Grand Hutt Council. Although The Twins were lucky enough to evade the fate of those who rule the Hutts, Vader's massacre resulted in massive disarray for the Hutt clans that operate across the galaxy. These events occurred before Boba became the new daimyo. Coupled with the weight of Jabba the Hutt's death, the Grand Hutt Council's equally grim fate meant that it took some time for things to settle down before The Twins could join the fold once more. This also shines a light on the fact that both Boba Fett and The Twins are in the crosshairs of every ambitious criminal who wants to take advantage of the power vacuum that Jabba left behind.

Moreover, while many long-time fans of the Star Wars movies may not be familiar with Black Krrsantan, the wookie bounty hunter has prominently featured in the canon Star Wars comic books. Krrsantan's past is also intertwined with both Boba Fett and Darth Vader, as the three literally used to work together. As Krrsantan and Boba have unfinished business, the former's current position as a bodyguard and assassin for The Twins is somewhat convenient for all parties – for now.

The Book of Boba Fett is reinventing the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter. And it's allowing even casual fans of the franchise to have a deeper look into the inner workings of the Hutt and Tatooine criminal empires. Combined with Boba's flashbacks with the Tusken tribe, The Book of Boba Fett is certainly different from what fans have come to expect from Disney. Unusual as it may seem, The Book of Boba Fett seems to be pushing Disney's Star Wars reign in the right direction.
