Temuera Morrison, star of Disney+'s latest Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, says he wants to portray Captain Rex and Commander Cody in live-action. The Book of Boba Fett is the first of several Star Wars series spinning off from the events of The Mandalorian. Morrison stars as the titular bounty hunter, accompanied by his new partner, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), as they lay claim to the criminal empire that once belonged to the infamous Jabba the Hutt.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) established the idea that Jango Fett (who was also portrayed by Temuera Morrison) was the clone father of Boba Fett, while also serving as the genetic template for the legions of clones that fought in the Clone Wars. This presented a unique opportunity for Morrison to portray his own son when it came time for Boba's return in The Mandalorian. Furthermore, thanks to the lore established in Attack of the Clones, Morrison also has an opportunity to portray other clone characters as well.

In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Morrison makes it clear that he's open to taking on more clone roles in the future. When asked if he will appear in future Star Wars series, the actor coyly references two fan-favorites, Captain Rex and Commander Cody, posing the question, "What happened to those guys?" He goes on to state that portraying other clone characters "could be something fresh and new and exciting.” Check out the full quote below:

Well, there are people — I’m thinking of Captain Rex for one. He looks a little like me. There’s Commander Cody. What happened to those guys? There’s all those clone armies. That could be something fresh and new and exciting.

Morrison briefly portrayed Commander Cody in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005). The character was further fleshed out in 2008's Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, which also introduced audiences to the now beloved Captain Rex. Both clones are closely associated with significant characters in the Star Wars saga, such as Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). With these characters returning for their own respective Disney+ series in the near future, fans have speculated that Morrison may reprise his clone roles in them.

Nevertheless, Lucasfilm remains tightlipped about the potential return of clone troopers to live-action. Morrison has repeatedly voiced his interest in portraying clone characters for many years; it's now up to Lucasfilm to produce projects that can utilize the actor's talents. With only three episodes released so far, there may even be room in The Book of Boba Fett for clones to make a surprise cameo.
