Temuera Morrison, who portrays the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett in the new Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, has confirmed the new name of his ship. Morrison stars in the series alongside Ming-Na Wen, who plays the master assassin Fennec Shand. The characters were brought together in The Mandalorian season 2, and are continuing their story in the new spinoff which is focussing on Fett’s adventures in the galaxy’s criminal underworld.

One of the more iconic aspects of Boba Fett's character is his famous ship, which for years was known by the name Slave 1. However, last year, months before The Book of Boba Fett premiered, Disney made the decision to move away from the Slave 1 moniker. The move proved to be controversial, drawing the ire of previous Boba Fett actors Daniel Logan and Mark Antony Austin. Despite their comments, Disney and Lucasfilm seem to be sticking with the change, and now Slave 1 has an official new name.

In a video interview with The Wrap, Morrison has confirmed that Fett’s ship, Slave 1, has had its name changed. The actor was asked if he could confirm that ship’s new name after it had been “stripped” of its previous title, and the actor said that he could, and that the ship was now called “The Firespray”. Co-star Wen nodded her head with a smile as Morrison answered, indicating her opinion on the new name. Check out Morrison's full answer below:

"I think we call it The Firespray, I think I've mentioned it in a couple of episodes ... It's a gunship now. That's what we're calling it. Firespray gunship."

Slave 1's New Name Revealed

The name change comes amid renewed focus on Boba Fett and his role in the Star Wars universe. Understandably, Disney is keen avoid use of the word ‘slave’ outside of its historical or definitional context, due to its potentially offensive and upsetting connotations. Fans will have to get used to the ship’s new name, and accept it as the beginning of a new phase of Star Wars which is primarily focussed on TV output, after the end of the recent sequel trilogy.

With its new name, The Firespray will now take its place alongside The Millennium Falcon, and more recently, The Razor Crest as one of Star Wars’ most iconic ships. The ship was first seen by audiences in The Empire Strikes Back, and was then seen again in Attack of The Clones which explored Fett and his father closely as an integral plotline. Fans will hope to see more of The Firespray, and more of it in action, as The Book of Boba Fett progresses towards its conclusion.
